This is a post to get ppl to try new thing. Get out of your Comfort Zone People! It has become a habit of mine to buy some random Game or Manga that I normally would not get (or at least for a long time). For example, Ys, Long Live the Queen, and Hyper Dimension Neptunia are all games I bought on a whim and I love these games. Some Manga I bought on a Whim are Masamune kun's Revenge, Todays Cerberus, Non Non Biyori, Pandora Hearts, Children of the Whales Ancient Magus Bride, To Love Ru, Assassination Classroom, and Yona of the Dawn and most of these (I have not read all of them yet since some of them are new buys from me) I find I enjoyed.

I used to consume a lot of games that went outside of comfort zones, but I've been stuck in a rut. I think I'd like to delete Rocket League tomorrow if that counts, lol. A thread like this is just what I need I think.
I subscribe to PS Plus. Got any recommendations from stuff that's been on there in the past?

I have The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 available to me.
My on a whim story was I bought Red Dead Redemption and 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors on the same day because I saw threads about both were very large on a popular gaming forum. I definitely preferred 999, and that probably is the game that turned me towards Japanese storytelling in general. Red Dead on the other hand disappointed me.

If someone suggests a LN I haven’t started that available digital, I’ll give it a go. I’ve tried a lot of first volumes but am always looking to expand. Whatchoo got?
For manga, I’ve taken to buying manga on amazon for my Kindle Oasis which I really like for reading manga and tend to buy stuff on sale. I have a ton of Negimi to get through which I’m not totally into yet but discovered Domestic Girlfriend, Real Girl, From the New World and 7 Billion Needles all of which I enjoyed. Also got a dozen or so volumes of Case Closed which I always knew I liked but have been enjoying.

I would like to think I am fairly open minded cause I read pretty much every genre, that includes Yaoi and Hentai stuff.
If anything I wish I could erase my memories and read some stuff for the very first time again.
Lights Novels I wish I could read for the first time again
Spice and Wolf
Danmachi
Realist Hero
Goblin SlayerManga I wish I could read for the first time again
Kimi No Todoke
Chihayafuru
And the one and only One Piece damn I wanna experience the story as new so bad -
@rahul-balaggan I’ve read at least first volumes of all the LNs you mentioned except Goblin Slayer, which I just bought for my Nook and will start shortly. Thank you!

So, I was going to continue with my rut of Rocket League play... And then the servers died. So I deleted it. I dunno what I'm going to pick up. I still have to read through White Album 2, so I just played some casual stuff quickly.
Titan Souls (no commentary iirc)
And played a bit of Stick It to the Man

Goblin Slayer
I'm in the middle of volume 2. You'll probably catch up to me unless I go crazy when April hits, ha ha. Dendrogram catch-up really limiting what I can read now.
-
@terrence I read pretty slow (and tend to pepper lots of first volumes into my continuing series) so we’ll see who catches up first!
-
@the-green-death I hope you like it, of all the officially license light novel series that are available it is bu far the darkest in terms of storyline, which is one of the reason I enjoy it so much.
Novels like Overlord and the more recent Undead adventurer may have dark elements but they don’t fully go to places that Goblin Slayer goes to, that combined with one of the most down to earth straight forward no nonsense MCs is why Goblin Slayer is one of my favorites.

I find Grimgar a bit darker and more ominous. Even when nothing bad happens to our major characters, I still feel a sense of unease because they seem to escape scenarios by sheer luck.
(I'll put my thoughts behind tags; not much in the way of spoiling, but still)
Goblin Slayer

@drone205 I tend to try something I might not otherwise if the price is right. Like I got Monster Monpiece for like $2 during a sale once; it's a card battle RPG, something waaaaay outside my wheelhouse, but ended up having a great time with it.
Or more recently, Bookwalker had the series Real Girl on sale. Bought the first volume on a whim, and liked it well enough to get some more.
-
@tremorc I also got Monster Monpiece as a Random/Impulse buy too, I have not played it yet. I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to games. I recently got a bundle that came with; Tricolour Lovestory, Fox Hime, Grobda Remix, Gazing from Beyond, Fable of the Sword for about 10 dollars total. I also got Moekuri: Adorable + Tactical SRPG for about 10 dollars too.

@rahul-balaggan About 50 pages in, the opening is definitely brutal isn’t it? The prose quality seems on the high end too, it’s an addicting read and depending on how busy I am I should finish it in the next few days. Thanks for the recommendation!
-
@drone205 I tend to do the same, though I'm trying to be better about that. I've finished more games than I've bought this year, so hopefully that's moving in the right direction.

@rahul-balaggan Finished Goblin Slayer and quite liked it. Reminded me in ways of a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western or King’s the Gunslinger (first Dark Tower book, only one I liked), in its heroic yet somewhat fatalistic hero. I’ll definitely keep following this series. My only hope is that it doesn’t lose its edge as it goes along. The last 50 pages seemed a little more standard LN to me than the rest of the book and I think if the heroes friends all end up with plot armor I’ll be disappointed a bit.

This is exactly how I feel after finishing one volume too. I'll be interested to see whether the story grabs me or no going forward.
In addition to the potential plot armor, I'm worried about how they'll handle relationship stuff. Similar to plot armor, I'm hoping Priestess doesn't have "first cover dibs" on Goblin Slayer.

I do this with anime a lot. I used to watch the first episode of about everything that came out that wasn't a short or obviously for kids. I ended up finding a lot of shows that were better than I was imagining. For example, this season, Beatless and Toji no Miko have surprised me. Hell, I hate cute girls doing cute things shows, but Yuru Camp has been strangely enjoyable.
I'm the same way with light novels on this site. I try to read at least the first volume of everything, but there's been a few I haven't cared for.
Games are harder though. DotA for Warcraft 3 spoiled me so now it's hard for a game to keep my interest. They're either too easy or too shallow. If it's short, I can usually make it through, but it's been years since I've actually completed something like a JRPG though.
-
@eins Toji no Miko was indeed surprising, I picked it up without expecting much and while it wasn't mind-blowing it was certainly decent and kept me hooked. Same thing happened with Konohana Kitan a few seasons ago (or was it just the previous one), what at first glance seemed just another moeblob ended up being touching enough to make me cry a few times, such a beautiful series.

The new thing I'm going to try this weekend is... a restful sleep. xD
I might have to start up Steins;Gate Zero again soon though since the anime is starting, and I don't want it spoiled.
I'm probably going to slowly make my way through Titan Souls (I have a hard time saying this is a "good" game; most bosses take effectively one hit to take out; at least there is a tiny bit of puzzling being added, but it's not much, just lighting torches). My brain isn't functional enough right now to laugh or cringe at Stick It To The Man either. =P

I'll be back in school because I totally forgot to show up to one of my classes and I didn't graduate. The question is, who will my sensei be?
