Physical Release Requirements

I know that JNC will rarely release physical copies of their licenses but I was curious what requirements a series has to meet before they're picked for one. Mainly interested in whether or not Slayers will get one. I've been waiting years for this to get rescued and I'm both very happy and sad that JNC picked it up. Happy because they do fantastic translations but sad because very rare physical releases and it's a personal thing but I hate reading LNs/Novels digitally and have no desire to support a digital release. Just curious what the odds are (I imagine pretty slim for something like Slayers).

Hello,
When J-Novel Club announced Slayers they also announced that it would be receiving a hardback print release.

Edit:
A release date for the first omnibus has not been set yet.A release date is tentatively set via @LegitPancake ‘s post.

@Rahul-Balaggan Sure take more of my money! ;-) I'm definitely looking forward to the HC collection.

The spoiler gives a release date, in the same way it feels like the cable company gives you a service appointment ... a season and a year!

@Rahul-Balaggan Oh wow I had no idea (literally just learned about this even being picked up like an hour ago). That's some pretty incredible news, thank you for the response!

Ok, I have an intriguing idea: using premium credits for physical product? In my mind a premium credit is 'worth' US$6.00 or $8.00 +/-, I'm thinking half a dozen or so for the upcoming Slayers omnibus? what about premium credits for some of the swag from the Rokojouma Kickstarter? (or is that a licensing/agreement violation?) or other things (maybe a deal with a Japanese retailer for merch tied to a title? although I know credits wouldn't go as far then - maybe a credit would only be worth US$3.00 or so?) Bookworm bookmarks, a Cooking with Wild Game cookbook (or apron), Smartphone phone charms? I'm sure someone more clever than I can think of more (and some that are feasible)
I know the Crunchyroll superfan deal fell through...maybe there's another outfit ( Kinokuniya?) that would be interested in cross-promotion?? -

But the preorder has been on Amazon for quite a while now, though?

How about that tea set with the storybook? That's probably about 20 credits worth though.

that tea set (in Japan) sold out like 5 minutes after release on the website- so now a rare collector's item ...more like 100 credits

Welcome to Japan Ms. Elf Guidebook to visiting Japan, LDM dakimakura, and so on...and so on -
Slayers aside, I remembered something about the digital release needing a certain amount of sales before being considered for print, but there are some titles that don't fall under that category and still get physical book releases.
Another thing I noticed is if said title has an upcoming anime announced, those happen to get printed releases too. Dunno what else they put into consideration.

I thought of this again and wonder if a "kickstarter" model for physical release and merch would be feasible for a licensing company like JNC. It's quite common for semi-pros like webtoon authors, and I've seen it done with astonishing success for one of the webtoons I follow.
-
@nofairytale They have done a kickstarter for one of their series already.

However I don't think that it will be something they do very often since it has been pretty much a year since it was done and we're still not expecting to get the finished product any time soon. -
@Timmaaah Nice. And good to see it seems to be doing pretty well, though I'm obviously not privvy to their profit calculations.
