The Top Five JNC series you wish would get an anime
-
The year is almost over, and we all know what that means; the very first season of 2021 anime is upon us!
So in celebration I thought we could share what are the Top Five JNC titles we would like to see made into anime in the future. Feel free to add if you have a prefer studio you would want to do the adaption or a VA you would want to voice the MC or anything like that.
Furthermore, to make this a more interesting and fruitful discussion, when you share your anime wish-list please also share why you want these series out of all the hundred or so that JNC has licensed.
Here's my Wish-list:
-
1. Deathbound Duke's Daughter - preferred studio: KyoAni since they did such a good job with Violet Evergarden; DDD I think is the kind of series that would benefit from the lavish scenery capabilities that KyoAni has displayed. With LiSA singing the OP just because I think she would do a killer job
It should come as no surprise to those of who read my post on @Liber-Monstrorum's topic Which is your current favorite J-Novel Club light novel? that this series is on the top of my list. words cannot describe how much I love this series. I love the female MC, I love the fact that the story takes place when she still a young kid, I love the fact the even though she's is isekai-ed into an otome game, the romantic developments detract from or take any focus away from the adventure. And it's just a really great adventure story, that takes me back to reading Harry Potter growing up. We don't have enough adventure story anime with great female MC's. This story deserves to be animated. -
2 Faraway Paladin - preferred studio: Ufotable given their work on Demon Slayer they would do an awesome job with both they action scenes and the quieter emotional moments.
This is probably the best straight fantasy story I ever read and having seen the manga here on JNC makes me really wish there is an anime of it. The story is really well written, better the most other fantasy LNs out there that have anime adaptations, and does a great job crafting the characters. Even if there was just a movie adapting the first volume I would be happy. -
3 Tearmoon Empire - preferred studio: Sliver Link since they did such a good job on the Bakarina anime.
This series is so hilarious, the world deserves to see Mia's constant failing upwards in all its animated glory. If nothing else but so we can see all the expressions she makes as she continues to be misunderstood as the Great Sage. -
4 Apothecary Diaries - don't have a preferred studio, maybe KyoAni because I want it to look beautiful.
This series has one of the greatest female MCs I've seen in a long while. Maomao is a badass, one of those rare badasses who are not action-orientated and we need to see her on screen. Also given the setting there are tons of great costumes. -
5 Mixed Bathing in another dimension - don't have a preferred studio, whichever studio did the anime for How Not To Summon a Demon Lord would work since they're the same genre
This series is an actually really good isekai harem story. With all the mediocre isekai harem shows out there, we deserve an isekai harem anime that actually has a great story and where the harem elements are well-written.
So that's my list, I curious to hear what's on everybody else's
Oh, and Happy New Year y'all😊 -
-
That's a pretty decent list. agree and surprised to see Mixed Bathing on there, guess we'd need a.new volume to come out to rebuild hype though...
If I had to add one maybe Dungeon Busters when another vol is out.
Yen Press -wise I'd like to see Worlds Strongest Rearguard too...
-
@Lily-Garden I would kill for a Silver Link Tearmoon Empire. But the real question is, who voices the Great Sage?

I've never heard of this series, what's it like?

Yeah, when constructing my list I tried to have a good mix of subgenres, since a lot of LNs on my favorite list are isekai; Faraway Paladin satisfies my appetite for straight fantasy while Mixed Bathing covers the more LN trope-heavy type of story. After all, since it's unlikely that we're going to stop getting isekai harem shows, we might well get a better one that does a proper job with the harem elements. 😊
-
@Lily-Garden it's basically an isekai where a corporate slave and his exploitative female boss die on a work outing ,they end up in Labyrinth country where they all get to chooss a class and then go dungeon crawlind. its a pretty by the book Isekai harem but with some interesting ideas and lore and all the girls are interesting into I think itd.make a decent anime
-
@ShipTeaser What the tone like? Is it rather lighthearted like Black Summoner or is it darker like Monster Tamer?
-
I like Psycho Pass and Goblin Slayer... and while not nearly as dark as them. Maybe The Unwanted Undead Adventurer? A fairly competent adventurer who ends up undead and dealing with that whole situation. Then moving forward the mysteries of the world they live in being explored. Not to mention, the plethora of future conflict yet to unfold. Honestly, I'd equate it to being more like The Irregular At Magic High School.

This series is so hilarious, the world deserves to see Mia's constant failing upwards in all its animated glory. If nothing else but so we can see all the expressions she makes as she continues to be misunderstood as the Great Sage.I agree with this assessment, it is pretty much like Bakarina. You have the school aspect, the misunderstanding by everyone based on a few accidentally choices based on foreknowledge that isn't available to most people.
-
@Lily-Garden I'd say it's more on the lighter side in general but there is the darker aspect later on, as a couple of the characters have some past tragedy they need to deal with and there are some trash reincarnators too (although Black Sumonner has one of those too as we saw recently lol)
-
@Lily-Garden I'm just going to steal your 1 and 3 because I agree completely and you even picked the same two studios as I would, for mostly the same reasons. I would probably flip the order personally, but we'll make them 1 and 2 either way.
-
Teogonia - this is such a different and often brutal story. It's reincarnation/isekai but only uses that in the most general of ways as a tool and it really has little to do with the world and the main character. You have to get the action right though, so ufotable or MAPPA would be my choice.
-
Der Werewolf - amusingly enough, another one were the reincarnation/isekai aspect is more of a tool to set things up than a driving force behind the series. Apparently I have a type, lol. This one I think will live and die in the adapting, you have to be able to show why Veight is the way he is as a character while also do the required world building and be able to handle the commerce/town building side, the political sides, the subtle romance, and of course some good action. I don't think it's one to rush either... the various arcs need time to breathe. So you are likely looking at two seasons. Bones makes the most sense in my head to do it, specificly a lot of the folks that have been working on Bungo Stray Dogs.
Can I vote for a better Infinite Dendrogram anime? No? Ok then...
- Altina the Sword Princess - this is just a fun series that has action, politics, a bit of romance, and while there are serious, dramatic things happening the writing always feels light enough to not bog down. Picking a studio is tough though... the correct answer is Gonzo at their height, back when they were making Hellsing and Gankutsuou and Pumpkin Scissors. But now... Bones again or Production IG I'm thinking.
Edit: And boy did the auto formatting have fun with that list. There is likely a way to fix it but I'm not up to working it out from my phone right this second.

- Tearmoon Empire
- An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride
- Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf
- Der Werwolf
- I Refuse to Be Your Enemy
#1 is my favorite JNC series, #2 and 3 are for animated adorableness, and I think #4 and 5 could work well in animated form.
-
@xdrfiredogx yeah, if it was a top 10 instead of a top 5 list then Der Werwolf and Altina would be next. I actually debated whether I want to put Der Werwolf instead Faraway Paladin but decided that I love Faraway Paladin too much to not put it at the top of my list
-
I actually find this a surprisingly tough question to answer. To a large extent that is because just liking a series doesn't mean it would make a good anime. Like I can't picture a way you could make LDM into an anime just because having multi-episode dungeon battles probably wouldn't work and you'd really have to just slash so much to make it fit the format that it would kind of make the characters, world, and dungeon battles way too 2d.
Of the 23 series I've read on here so far I'd say maybe (Six already have Anime Adaptations):
- White Cat's Revenge - Trim the series into 1 24 episode season.
- Potion Loli - I think this series feels a little disconnected and serialized enough that it could be turned into an anime while still having the feeling of it.
- Elf Bride - This one is a maybe, it could work on its premise, but I'm not quite sure how to divide it into a 12 episode arc. They don't have some long drawn out will/they won't they, and that question is resolved by the end of book 1. Then anything resembling an over arching plot just slowly plots by.
-
There are so many I would like to see in anime forum and there are so many I would like to see continued such as Full Metal Panic and Smartphone.
If I had to limit it to 5 then I would pick these in no specific order.
- She's the Cutest... But We're Just Friends! - I think it would be really cute and fun to watch Kai and Jun relationship unfold on the screen and see broyalty.
- Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! - I think this will have some nice action scenes, comedy, and get to see Maria and Wrida reactions to food would be fun.
- An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride - Another one along with same lines of the first too. To see the reactions and relationships while having some good action seasons.
- The Apothecary Diaries - To see Maomao's look at Jinshi
5.Either or both of these: The Magician Who Rose From Failure / The Magic in this Other World is Too Far Behind! - Along the same lines as the others
-
Ok. I'm gonna toss these out in no particular order:
- The Bloodline
- Her Majesty's Swarm
- Der Werwolf
- Can Someone Please Explain What's Going On
- Altina the Sword Princess
Personally, I would not wasn't to see Faraway Paladin done because I'm deathly afraid they would screw it up. I'll just point to Arifureta and Infinite Dendrogram as examples.
-
@db0ssman Elf Bride is tricky. Like you pointed out, while it takes forever for them to make progress on their relationship, at the end of vol 1 they are in it and at no point is there ever any real threat to the relationship from that point on. So the success of an anime would have to hinge on adapting the relationship between the Archdemons, the Church, and the Demon Lord sealed away... while also giving us lots of Love Power! moments between the various couples that form. I'd like to see an anime of it - if this were a top 10 list it would have made it - but that's a careful balance of what are really two different types of story to have to tell, which makes me worried about it being successful.
-
at the top of my mind i can only think of 3
First it would be Tearmoon Empire - It is my current favorite LN, I always looking forward to read a new part thou the first episode might put off some viewers. It was at least quite heavy to read in the LN.
Second - It would be White Cat's Revenge - First volume was really good, it lost its edginess later on but still read it regularly.
Third - The Sorcerer's Receptionist - This is one of my favorites LN, it just hooked me from the start I loved the interactions of Nanalie and Rockman thou it is about time that Alois confessed.
Forth - The Extraordinary, the Ordinary, and SOAP! not a long series the whole story could be animated. Lucia and Maria work really well together and it features love, adventure and political machination. Quite fleshed out world considering it is just a 3 volume series.
Fifth -Kobold King It is very edgy but it features really cute dog people (kobolds) might be nice to see animated thou I am a bit conflicted due to the violence.I as an honorable mentions beast head, Super Cleric and PotionLoli.
My favorite anime studio is Dogakobo, they specialise in making 4koma anime adaptions, of mostly cute SOL. I think for the series I like all featuring cute main characters they would really also do great adapting these LN.

I would bet if this gets an anime they would skip that initially and then bring it in as a flashback a couple episodes in.

I would love to see this as an anime, but given the intricacy of the plot, I don't think it could work without at least 26 episodes, and that's a hard sell these days. Trimming this one to 12 or 13 episodes would either leave major unresolved plot hanging at the end (and then never have another season to resolve it) or would lose half the plot in the middle.
