Nearly everyone who buys regularly from online shops outside the EU has heard of it- the abolition of the 22 Euros VAT De Minimis into EU. But what does it mean for everyone living in the EU? Does it mean does you can't order anymore from sites like amazon.com or amazon.co.jp, like it already is with Switzerland (amazon completely stopped shipping there)?
For me it would be terrible, I don't mind paying more to get my books, but if amazon stops (besides the local amazon sellers) shipping in the EU? That's a nightmare, since then I won't be able to get japanese and english books anymore...

Does this tax apply to electronic books?

An how would removing it (abolition) prevent people from shipping?

Ah - the "Abolition" of the minimum value that is taxed.

My understanding is that different EU member states have different tax rates and many have a reduced or zero rate for books and/or e-books.

I don't know how things work for imported books but https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/individuals/buying-goods-services-online-personal-use/buying-goods/buying-goods-online-coming-from-a-noneu-union-country_en might be of assistance.

          Stay shiny, y'all.

@SomeOldGuy @Shiny I think this has something more likely to do with amazon in general. Excluding the european amazon sites, non-EU amazon sites like amazon.com or amazon.co.jp don‘t ship to Switzerland and Australia anymore, because of the abolition of the minimum value in Switzerland and GTS in Australia.
If this applies to the EU in july as well, it could be possible that you can’t order anything from overseas amazon sites in the future (I don‘t know if this will include ebay etc. too). Ebooks aren‘t included in it, only physical items.
For me this would be really bad news as well, since I order a lot of books from Japan a year (around 36 volumes).

I don't know if Amazon or other shops will stop shipping to Europe, but having to add 10-15 euro to cheap orders is going to a lot of the things I buy prohibitively expensive.

@Lex If it‘s only a change in price, then I won‘t complain. I just hope that the overseas amazon sites won‘t stop selling/shipping to the EU altogether, like they did with Switzerland and Australia.
...Nah, time will tell and maybe there will be other possibilities to get foreign-language books (in this case mangas, novels etc.) by then.
