New epubs don't work on FBReader
-
I'm finding that the new epub files don't work on FBReader, which is the book reader I'm using on Linux. I can't find a particular reason for this to happen.

From what I can see FBReader doesn't fully support epub3 which seems to be what JNC is publishing, so it's possible that the epubs you're trying to load make use of features in the epub3 standard the reader doesn't support.

You might be using a really old version of FBReader as well -- the open source version that's in most (all?) repositories hasn't been updated since the developer took it closed source six years ago. :(
I really like foliate as a fully open source alternative, though the style is very different.

@urchinstar47 I just tested a random premium download using latest FBReader for Android, which I'm going to assume uses the same rendering engine as the Linux version, and it worked great. If you could maybe clarify what you mean by "new" EPUBs, that would be helpful as well. Our EPUBs, especially new ones, all pass epubcheck, the industry-standard validation tool for EPUBs with zero errors.
As mentioned by other users, try updating your version (knowing your version would be useful as well) and making sure it supports EPUB 3.0 spec (which is from 2011)

Indeed, it's a dated version of FBReader.
I've tried Foliate, and it works ok. I'm not completely a fan of it's style, but I suppose I'll have to manage.
