Converting to Mobi
-
Can anyone help this old lady out? I want to read JNC books on my kindle paperwhite. Before, I had managed to convert the file to a mobi one and then sent it to my kindle via email but this isn’t working anymore. I’m wondering if I’ve forgotten a step. Any tips?
Thanks

@vegangoth Use calibre. https://calibre-ebook.com/ Piece of cake to do it this way. Hook up your kindle, add epub, push a button, done.

@vegangoth Calibre is the tool. No plug-ins needed to EXPORT to mobi, and Calibre can also email it to your kindle... So long as the size is less than 35MB.
Writing directly to the kindle, you'll want to convert to AZW3 instead, to keep the best resolution on pictures.

first of all nice chose of username. Vegangoth and old lady sounds like an interesting combination.
So for emailing. I assume you did send the mobi to your kindle email? If so you should check if the book is shown in your library that you see on the Amazon website. Mobi files should be send in an email without any text in the body. And you need to send it over an approved email adress (you can set your emails that are allowed to send books to your amazon library.
How did you convert to mobi? As the others stated I would recommend Calibre. Although my workflow is a little different as I usually convert to AZW3 (this way I can use custom fonts) and send it over USB. Some times I use the calibre Web Server but then it doesn't send the cover over. This gets corrected when I connect it again to calibre over USB. Mobi files have no problem with a cover as a sidenote.
So shortly if you still want to send it via email check for:
-
Using the right kindle mail address
-
sending from a email adress which you did approve
-
send the mobi file without any text in the body of the email (the subject doesn't matter)
-
oh and if the mobi file is too large it will not be added to your library. Which can give problems for some JNC books as I once saw a book with 42MB

@christopher-lamay great. Thank you

@someoldguy very handy tip on the other file. Thank you

@saskir I never thought to check the Amazon site, cracking idea. The size of the file as well was so thing I never thought about. Thank you

@saskir The file size problem is if you're uploading to Amazon so that Kindle manages when the file is on your Kindle. When you transfer by USB, you can use any size mobi or azw3, but if your Kindle gets low on storage, they won't "auto unload".
The only way to transfer to Kindle management is by email, and Amazon will accept up to 50MB emails. When encoded for email transfer, you hit the 50MB limit with a 37MB mobi file. Been there, done that...

Yep if you use calibre you don't have the filesize problem. Kinda silly as you don't have problems with large files if they are bought from Amazon. I think I had once an LN which was 67MB large. Am not sure if it was from Sol Press or Tentai Books. Atleast it was not Yen Press, they are ridiculous with their compression.

UPDATE: All fixed. I had forgotten to connect my kindle to our new router, now that I’ve done that everything converted fine. I now have 5 copies of the one book lol. As we say in Scotland ‘I’m a numpty’ (idiot)
