@Drone205 suggested in my thread about light novels that would appeal to women that he had some thoughts on native English works he'd like to toss out. I thought it would be best to discuss those non-translated works here.

There are currently two books I am reading right now, Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff and Fatespinner by S.K. Aetherphoxx. I am currently reading them, not completed so this is from what I have read so far or remembered reading since I have read Stormdancer over a year ago but kinda stopped for some reason so I am re-reading it.
Whisper is the main character in Fatespinner and she is quite unique, or as unique as any character can get. Whisper is powerful and a bit of a badass but that is not all there is to her. she has her own problems and insecurities. I find it hard to explain her so I will just make a comparison to another character from another series. Guts from Berserk is not just a brooding anti-hero but a real breathing human. it is very similar for Whisper from where I am at in the book so far. There are also other really good Female characters in this but So far Whisper is the one we spend the most time on.
Fatespinner Sysnopsis

Yukiko from Stormdancer will be harder since this is the one I have read over a year ago and started to re-read it. I am only finished chapter 3 so far but I remember Yukiko was such an interesting character, she had to be since she was the lead character. And I think there will be a very interesting relationship with her and a griffon or an arashitora. This one pretty much takes place in a Steampunk Japan.

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, 3 books in the first series.
Vin is a poor young girl who's being exploited as a scam artist when she's found by the legendary Mistborn Kelsier. There's a second series known unofficially as Wax & Wayne that takes place a few hundred years after Mistborn that's still ongoing (4 books out so far), and Sanderson's plan is for there to be a 3rd series that takes place in the far future of the same world as well. Wonderful books, I really enjoy Sanderson's works :3
