I love this series and would like for a new license for the rest of the books. I know recently there was an announcement that a new book was being released for this series after about 6-7 years between the last to which I think it was said it was like 2000 pages or some absurdity like that. Either way this series is actually one of the few Japanese novel series that I've read that has an incredibly deep and rich backstory to its world, politics, and characters. Definitely worth picking up as its one that would add some depth to J-novel's catalog.

Spotlight time! A friendly bump to an older post in order to draw attention to it.

                              This gets all my upvotes.

I loved the anime back then, and I was so happy when the novels got licensed... only to be dropped after a few volumes, in both english and german. So disappointing.
I really hope the new volumes inspire someone to rescue the license!

I mentioned this already, but its one of my favorites as far as fantasy goes. I like the world building in the series and its definitely worth picking up considering we only got 4 of the books from the series. I believe there are 3-4 books not counting the 4 that are from the arc mentioned in the above post that were never translated into English officially.

Its an older series for sure, but one that deserves an proper full translation. Perhaps as a rescue title?

I'd like to read this series, looks like it's meaty and the art seems really cool too

@jon-mitchell The new novel (which is so long they're releasing it in four volumes) is wrapping up Taiki's storyline. They've announced a new short story collection for 2020 as well.

@jon-mitchell Yep. the 4 books are 2500 pages long apparently in total? so like 630 pages per book if that is the case. However, I figure it would honestly take that much to wrap up what was left off considering what needs to happen in the storyline.

It's interesting to me that Ayatsuji is known as the author of Another in the West, when he has made so much more valuable contributions to Japanese literature. The Decagon House Murders by Ayatsuji started the Shinhonkaku movement in Japanese literature, and he's also one of founders of Honkaku Mystery Writers Club of Japan. Without him, Japanese (traditional fair play) mystery genre wouldn't be where it is right now, and it wouldn't have so many diverse sub-genres you can't really find in Western literature. So many popular mystery novels, visual novels (e.g., Umineko) and light novels (e.g., Zaregoto) possibly wouldn't have existed today.
