Actually post new series in "News" or somewhere, instead of just quietly adding them to the series list
-
I don't understand why it seems so hard to make an announcement post whenever new series get added. I just checked the series list, and there's 10 new series (novel only, from 182 to 192) since the last time I checked. I sorted by new to see which ones were new, but when I went to the forum to check on any announcements, there was nothing. Why are new series not being posted about? This isn't something that should just quietly be added and hope people notice at some point. Quite literally what a "News" topic is perfect for. Either that or there has been a post about it and I'm blind, but this isn't the first time I've noticed this and it's quite frankly annoying.
I don't understand why adding 10! new novels to the series index isn't "news" worthy. -
You mean like when they sum up what they announced on their livestream?

I think that it might be more when a new series actually starts pre-pubbing, rather than when it gets licensed. Pale Moon Reverie just got going today, but could easily be overlooked.
My interpretation might be the wrong one, though.

@GeorgeMTO No, I do not mean a thread about a livestream where you have to sift through 6 pages of comments to maybe find whatever they added, because I just looked through it and I didn't see a single staff post that had a proper TL;DW and lists the series.
It's not hard to make a thread called "Latest Added Series" and bulletpoint them on the day they are added. It keeps it clean, easy to find, and people don't have to search through a post about a livestream to see if there's any new series. In fact, let me show you
Latest Added Series
- Reincarnated Mage with Inferior Eyes: Breezing through the Future as an Oppressed Ex-Hero
- A Cave King’s Road to Paradise: Climbing to the Top with My Almighty Mining Skills!
- Ascendance of a Bookworm: Short Story Collection
- Survival Strategies of a Corrupt Aristocrat
- I Only Have Six Months to Live, So I’m Gonna Break the Curse with Light Magic or Die Trying
- A Pale Moon Reverie
- A Royal Rebound: Forget My Ex-Fiancé, I'm Being Pampered by the Prince!
- The 100th Time’s the Charm: She Was Executed 99 Times, So How Did She Unlock “Super Love” Mode?!
- The Apothecary Witch Turned Divorce Agent
- Young Lady Albert Is Courting Disaster
Next time they add another few series, they can just reply in the thread. Lock the thread, so only staff can reply to it, keeps it nice, clean, and it makes it easy to find new series, without having to check the series index and remember the # of series they have so far.
It took me maybe 3 minutes to add them in a bulletpoint list and hyperlink them to their actual pages. I don't see why staff couldn't do this. -

The post I linked to contains a link to the slides (which contain all the new announcements) and a ANN article containing all the new announcements. Wanting it formatted in a specific way is indeed not always done, but it was for the previous stream in September (Anime NYC being a live panel rather than a stream, and did not receive a summary)
https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/6044/september-2022-livestream/2But yeah, you'll often find summaries of the new series in the second comment of an announcement thread. I hope this helps.

@Physixt-0 If you are willing to use JNC's Discord (there is a link to it on the bottom-right of the website's main page), there is a channel that basically does what you are asking for (#new-pre-publications). @Rahul-Balaggan adds each new volume there as it is announced or as the forum topic for the volume is created.

Hi! We post in the news subforum when there is an announcement coming, then we reserve the second post in that thread to add the list of new series later. On the same day that the announcements are made, the new series are added to the website and new topics are posted in the forum to discuss those series. Hopefully this will help you know where to look for this information in the future!

Hello @myskaros I know series are added regularely but is there a regular fixed time for it ?
By that I mean "every first week of the month" or "every quarter on something week".
-
@ManusDei
It'd be hard for there to be a fixed schedule for announcing new series acquisitions.
The impression I have is that there are negotiations going on at all times, and once they've got the license they then need to assemble the staff for the project and allow them to get up to speed and have some completed chapters prior to commencing posting prepubs. They do seem to wait until a certain number are ready to start posting prior to doing so, given their showing up in a batch.
But given the number of variable involved they can't say "Every x months we will add new series".
When the threshold is cleared they announce that there will be a stream at which time they'll announce new licenses; to the extent possible they try to have that fall in line with convention appearances. One can be fairly certain that if they are attending a convention and making a presentation new titles will be announced.
But otherwise it's hard to predict. You need to keep in mind that no Japanese publisher has to license stuff to JNC.
JNC needs to make sure they don't alienate the Japanese publishers. -
@Geezer-Weasalopes That being said, during the last livestream Sam did mention that there are livestreams scheduled for every other month through September, and that JNC is trying to be a bit more regular with announcements (aiming for every other month). So the next one should be in March at some point.

It'd be hard for there to be a fixed schedule for announcing new series acquisitions. It's not the acquisition annoucement I was thinking about but the actual publishing of the first chapter for new series. Every new chapter is published on a given day (Myneday !) so there might already be a given week on a month/quarter where JnC publishes new chapters.
-
It would be cool if JNC made a blog post as that feature of their site seems to be under-utilized. It's mostly only used for catch-up announcements currently. https://j-novel.club/blog

@Aruseus493 We generally need a better top page for all of these kinds of things, it's on the roadmap.

on the top of the homepage (HOME SERIES CALENDAR FORUMS USER) just add "news" and have it link to the newsletter that is emailed (and have forward/back button on the news section to see previous newsletters)
no re-inventing the wheel or specific formats
no (for me) digging thru my inbox for the newsletter
news/announcements for those who want it without having to look too hard(edited to add) a regular schedule of newsletters would be nice also - i.e. newsletters are biweekly unless it's an 'off schedule' announcement - maybe have an icon when a new newsletter is posted?
