TS Medic's Battlefield Diary
-
Alt titles: TS衛生兵さんの戦場日記, TS Eiseihei-san no Senjou Nikki
Author: Masaki Tama
Artist:CreteKureta (artist of Ishura)
Publisher: Kadokawa
Volumes: 1 (just released two months ago, so I can't tell if it's standalone)
Manga: one just started
Synopsis: An ex-pro gamer of the FPS genre (♂) reincarnated in a fantasy world filled with magic... Only to learn that what greeted him was not a scene from one's dreams, but a muddy battlefield full of bullets flying to and fro! Moreover, he's now an orphan girl named Touri Noel?!After her aptitude for healing magic was discovered, she decided to volunteer in the army as a second-class medic, all to raise money for the orphanage where she was born and raised. However, without even getting magic training, she was attached to an assault squad, repeatedly fighting on the most cruel battlefields of the "Western Front."
The mission given to her was to become the personal medic of the frontline's ace, Garback, and not let him die at any cost. But he turned out to be the worst commander, who will try to get results whatever the cost, even if it means the death of his subordinates! On the battlefield, mired in unreasonable orders and violence, Touri's fierce battle for survival continues...
Comments: It's... it's Tanya the Evil except the protagonist isn't a sociopath. I saw the manga and thought it would be an interesting read, although given the first volume seems to be standalone I definitely get if it's too much for JNC to do.

Author: まさきたま | Masaki Tama (not confirmed)| Narou
Artist: クレタ | Kureta (per MAL & ANN) | Twitter (confirmed via their posting imagery related to the work) | Pixiv
Volume 1 of the Japanese LN was released on 2023-07-28.
As of today (2023-09-04) the WN at Narou appears to have seven "volumes" plus, with the most recent post 2023-08-09, so unless Kadokawa decides it bombed with volume 1 there should be more to come.I couldn't find anything related to an online account for the author beyond Narou; I don't actually read Japanese, but that doesn't prevent using search engines and looking for the proper character string, and the only relevant hits seemed to be publisher or bookstore related. While they've a number of works at Narou, this appears to be the first to get picked up for an LN. Nothing I found seemed to show an official Romaji or English version of the author's name, so Masaki Tama may or may not be their preferred romanization; Masatama also showed up via translation utilities in addition to Masaki Tama.
It's pretty solid that it's an alias, not their legal name, so a one word romanization would not be unheard of.The illustrator, on the other hand, could be somewhat confirmed via MAL and ANN both using Kureta for the individual whose Twitter account shows the cover art for this work, as well as artwork related to other works listed on MAL and ANN for that name. MTL provides Crete or Creta, but that doesn't seem to match up with anything used by the individual in question.
I didn't look into the manga end of things, but there is one already...which to me shows a certain level of support right off the bat.

I think it’s Kureta for the artist, come to think of it. Based on their Twitter they also do the art for Ishura, and that’s how Yen Press wrote their name.
That said, giving a LN an artist like that indicates big support, right?

Binge read through the web novel (although translated through google translate). Can say that I enjoyed it quite a bit even with janky MTL xD. Would love to see a translation someday

The characters in the author’s name are read “masakitama” and it is almost certainly meant to be read as surname Masaki, given name Tama - which Kadokawa confirms in the copyright line both on BookWalker and ComicWalker:
https://bookwalker.jp/de24b7f2e0-f0c9-4b2a-99ea-9a4eaf503615/
https://comic-walker.com/contents/detail/KDCW_AM19204280010000_68/The illustrator’s name is directly transliterated as “Kureta” and this is the spelling used both by themselves in their Twitter handle and by publishers (Japanese and English).
I’ve been following the manga on ComicWalker and have bought (but only flicked through) the novels.

Update: Today TS Medic won first place in the KimiRano Best Light Novel award for 2023 (in the Tankobon division)
I could really do this for all the winners, but that would take forever to do.
