@Kamijou-Touma it's very funny. If you're not familiar with the franchise, though, just beware that it's also very lewd.

          Spoiler for explanation of lewdness:

          spoiler

And it's one of those ones that I would totally never watch because of the excessive fanservice if it weren't for the really good story being told behind it (the manga is here on JNC and I've been reading it).

The main character loves magical girls and thinks they should be unbeatable and able to stand up to anything. So when she's told she has to be a villain, and discovers in her first attack that the magical girls aren't as great as she thought they were, she takes the opportunity to give the magical girls hands-on training, because they aren't worthy opponents and she wants them to live up to their reputation (this isn't really explained specifically but you can tell by her actions and personality). Of course that means making excuses for the rest of the villains as to why she keeps letting them get away when she could have so easily taken them out. Each of the characters has a story behind them and they get told eventually.

@pcj you forgot to mention that the MC awakens as a dominatrix over the course of her villainous career

@Lily-Garden I think that was implied by what I had in the spoiler

A definite case of pastie inflation there. If they feel the need to do that, how will they manage with the overt BDSM elements, I wonder?

Lewd never bothered me at all. Nothing can phase me after reading the last few Shinmai maou no testament books.

@Angelus, and the answer is very well, thank you, as the first uncensored episode of the anime goes further in some ways than the manga.

Most of the reaction I'm seeing from people who didn't read the manga seems to be along the lines of "I don't know what the hell I just watched but I feel ashamed for watching it and please give me more because I'll watch the entire season."

Clearly it's going to be the guilty pleasure watch of the season.

Nah, it's censored...for certain values of censored.
HIDIVE is showing the AT-X version, so while the video is uncensored the sound is toned down.
Not sure we heard any of that this episode, but it would indicate that it'll get more passionate latter on.

Yes, I'd heard about that, but as you say, there didn't seem to be anything noticable in this episode. Guess we'll have to wait and see. Or hear.

So far it’s a decent adaptation, I look forward to when all the characters come together and the plot really starts going rather than the just the “plot”

I like how for the first two minutes they made it look like a nice and normal magical girl show.

You remember how about 08:30 into the episode where Venalita threatened Utena with retweeting her transformation if she didn't help?

Well I guess he carried though with his threat.

OK, Ep 2 was kind of weird. @Geezer-Weasalopes was of course correct that the sound is censored, it was just much more noticeable this episode. But the effect of that was really strange, it felt almost like I was watching a silent movie sometimes. Perhaps the crash in animation quality didn't help though.

I liked the music that used in those sections, it really seemed to fit.
