Feature request: Way to flag errors while reading.
-
I'd like to be able to just highlight a word/phrase/punctuation and tap a button to report.
I see dozens of errors in every part, especially on the smaller titles, but I'm never going to stop reading, open another tab, find the relevant thread, check if others have reported it, and transcribe the text if not. Way too much hassle and I don't like to break my groove. However, I would still like to see the product improve, so if I could do it with little effort and without changing tabs, that'd be great.
On the back end, I suppose you would want to rank errors by how many reports or maybe add a weighting for the user's reliability to avoid false reports.

This is a feature I'd like to see, but to date JNC haven't prioritised it. I'd definitely report more typos and mistakes if I could do so inline.
I think perhaps they use the current requirement to manually post corrections as a filtering mechanism, as in if it isn't something annoying enough to make someone want to post then JNC isn't bothered.
They probably expect to catch any remaining serious mistakes through the final proof reading process and if they miss things that has gotten through those steps then they probably don't think they are egregious enough to worry about unless they prove bad enough for someone to email them and then they can go into the next epub update.
Here's some examples of the feature being requested in the past:
- I suggested in-app reporting on the 1st of April 2018: https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/979/proofreading-for-membership/4 with no response
- @eugenewf suggested an in-browser reporting system on 14 December 2018 at https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/1935/feature-request-add-a-button-inside-the-web-to-highlight-submit-feedback-about-typos-and-spelling-errors and it was dismissed at the time as not being worth the development time
- @Codiro-Sasahara asked for it to be easier to report typos on 14 May 2020 with no response
Also, at https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/2821/how-do-i-report-errors-i-see-in-pre-pubs/5 Rahul raised the concern that making typo reporting too prominent might "potentially give people the wrong impression of this service, making them think they have to work after paying for the subscription."

It really has to do with their disabling the right-click options so that folks can't easily steal the prepub text.
If you can't select text there's really no way they could set something like that up.
The downside of turning off the ability to select/copy text to prevent prepub theft is that it also means you can't copy/paste text when reporting possible corrections.Unless they change the settings for the prepub pages this is something that won't change.

It's a good idea, but difficult to implement I imagine. It should be possible to select text while also making it impossible to copy on mobile platforms. They could make it an app feature, but not available on the site.
Could be a bit of a nightmare too, with hundreds of people reporting the same typos. The prepubs don't get updated, after all. So the current system is fine with that in mind.
Therefore, the best option for now would be to link to corrections topics from within the reader.
