One Peace Books

I find One Peace to be kind of the strangest of the Light Novel publishers. They have one wildly successful title with Shield Hero but where most other publishers would have tried to capitalise on that and build out a line of licenses, they just kept regularly publishing Shield Hero with nothing else for seven years (well there was Spear Hero and I think one volume of some Vocaloid crossover thing). Now finally in 2022 they’re adding some more titles. I know they also do manga and a number of non-genre books but it still is a surprising approach.
Personally, I would obviously take this over the Sol approach of tons of licenses but little progress (I imagine almost everyone would), but I’m curious to hear what others think about One Peace and also to hear if anyone has insight into their approach.

I'm not that interested in supporting them after they dropped Mikagura School Suite after just 1 volume.
-
It does make me worried when they have released the first volume of The Death Mage, but can't see any mention of the second volume anywhere...
This is the only series of theirs that I have bought that wasn't shield hero related, so it doesn't shine a good light on them.
-
@Timmaaah Since volume one isn’t out yet, I wouldn’t be too worried yet (they did drop one series but that was over 5 years ago so not necessarily indicative as to how they’ll behave now).
After giving it some thought I actually just popped over to Barnes and Noble to preorder the eBook and I found they’re charging a massive $11.50 for the eBook. $10 is my upper limit, that’s a crazy price for a single volume of a light novel. Checked Amazon and it’s that much there too. Just stupid pricing.
-
@the-green-death Ah true, I forgot the release date since I already have had the physical for a week or 2.
That is a pretty outrageous price for a ebook. -
@the-green-death There is a coupon on Kobo that still works, it takes 40% off one ebook and you can use it as many times as you want as long as you buy one at a time.
PARTNERS22
It also combines with the 10% discount if you have the $10/year Kobo membership.Note that the member discount and this coupon do not work on Yen Press ebooks. But it does work on Seven Seas, One Peace, Viz, and J-Novel Club titles.

@LegitPancake that’s a great code, thanks! Did the preorder!

Resurrecting a very old thread, but...
I just watched The Wrong Way To Use Healing Magic and was hoping to read the LNs. Unfortunately, they appear to only be available as physical novels (Amazon and B&N), and not available digitally.
I don't think I've experienced this before with any other LN translation house, where they only sell physically. Is this a One Peace thing? Do we have any reason to believe that the novels will eventually be released digitally? There's a manga that is available digitally, but I'm not a big fan of manga, especially when the LN precedes it.
I found an online source for the translation, so it's not like I've hit a dead end. I'd prefer to support the author and publisher by purchasing the books, but absolutely refuse to buy physical volumes.

@unknownmat I've found them just fine on Bookwalker. Haven't bothered to check other stores, but might just be you need to look at a few others.
-
@GeorgeMTO I see, thanks. It's weird that it's not available for Kindle, doubly so since the One Peace site only mentions the physical versions at Amazon and B&N.
I'm not keen to open up yet another digital library account, but I guess if a legal version is available, I have no excuse to read the fan translation.

Actually, if available, you can read the fan translation / machine translation if the web novel.
That is just fine since it does not affect the light novel version.

@unknownmat They were switching up their distribution seven months ago, so maybe they're still in the process of that? It looks like Shield Hero is back up anyway.
-
@Gamen I see. I might wait a few days and see if anything changes.
