New iOS app update issues.
-
Hi,
Having used the updated version of the iOS app for a few days I've noticed the following bugs, removed features, reduced functionality, etc
- There is no longer any pagination or tap to advance a page.
- The button to select sideways page turn behavior can't be selected. It just stays greyed out. There's no 'simple mode' anymore - it just seems to be in simple mode all the time.
- Aspect lock has been removed, and if the aspect changes from portrait to landscape the point to which you've read will go back a random amount, sometimes back to the start of the part.
- Changing the display from day mode to night mode also causes the read-to point to shift backwards.
- The password functionality is still semi-broken as it was in the second version compared to the app's first version that correctly displayed the j-novel option without searching and populated both the username and password correctly.
- Exiting a part midway through then re-opening it and resuming will take you to a point several pages before the last page you were reading.
Basically, it's nice that the ability to read manga in-app has been added but it would also have been nice if the many bugs introduced in the last app release had been fixed and if QA / testing had been done to make sure new bugs weren't being introduced.
Edit: tested on iPhone X, iOS 12.4

On the positive side, it did fix the older version deleting every paragraph before an illustration, and simple mode glitching italic words into “>em em<“
Also, zooming into manga pages in the new update is terrible.
-
@legitpancake True, but on the strength of the missing aspect lock alone I'd probably take the old version over the new.
-
@cassydd Just use the aspect lock built in iOS. Pull down on the top right corner of the screen to access.
-
The password issue is by far my biggest irritation; in prior versions, the app would frequently lose my status and force me to re-login, and the login process is clunky and frequently forces me to force close the app and re-open to get it to recognize the login.
-
@cassydd The app not being able to rotate was a major complaint people had with the old version. I see the ability to rotate as an improvement. It's very simple to lock screen orientation on iOS, I leave mine permanently on on my phone unless I need to rotate the screen.

I just launched the new updated version so I will use it for a while and see, but I feel like the font increase isn’t as good as it use to be. The title for the chapter got larger but the overall font didn’t seem to increase as much as I would of liked. It also seems a little more sluggish now.

I want to say ‘there’s a J Novel Club app?’, but if the internet has taught me anything, it that there’s an app for everything beside changing people genders and controlling their minds...
-
@cassydd OMG this thing is gonna make my reading so much easier! All we need is for it to be updated for us to go to the forums and I’ll never have to open my internet app again.
Just checked... a way to purchase through it would also be cool, but I can be cool and still buy from the site. -
@oathkeeper95 There are links on the series pages that take you to the purchase page on the website.
-
@sniper_samurai One issue technically solved right there!
-
@legitpancake OMG, I never knew why my light novels had so many instances of characters saying >em em< in strange places until now! I thought it was some strange Japanese thing I didn’t get.

Is there a way to access the books in my library with the app? Tried starting a re-read on my ipad, but can't find a way to access my library. When I tried going to series which I know I have, it only offers the option to buy the book. I'm actually asking if it still requires third party software to read books which have been purchased, or is there something I'm not seeing.
-
@pleco_breeder nope no way to access your purchased books via the JNC app you do require third-party apps or proprietary apps on your device like iBooks from apple of google play books from android
-
When phones rotation is unlocked and your in the middle of a chapter and it rotates to landscape mode and back you loose your progress.
-
using ipad pro w/ 1OS 13 and iphone 7 (also iOS 13) if set to pagination vs scrolling when reading pre-pubs, app doesn't stop on one page (unusable in page turn mode, vertical scrolling seems to work ok)
I don't like scrolling as app does not keep track of reading progress in that mode. If I stop to answer a call or whatever and return to the app- jumps back to 0.0% and I have to scroll back down to where I think I left off...
(basically pagination is not working)

@jon-mitchell It works if you tap to turn the page instead of swipe. More pressing is that it has been over a year since we've had a beta build that actually displays all insert images correctly.
