App - Night Mode
-
Black background, gray-white font: in other words, please add the option for a night mode experience while reading. As it stands now, the in-app reader can double as a flash light at night.
If you would like to go a step further, please consider adding the same night mode experience to the GUI.
Besides making reading at night a more pleasant experience, LED based screens will benefit from decreased power consumption if such a mode is implemented. Less power consumptions = more reading on the go. LCD screens will not benefit from the decrease in power consumption, but again main focus would be in getting rid of the flashlight while reading at night.
Cheers

Night mode also makes things a lot more pleasant for people such as myself that suffer from migraines and light sensitivity in general. When I read on the site, for example, I use a Chrome plugin called Dark Reader.
-
I use night mode on Moonreader and can heartily endorse this request.

Hadn't thought about it from a medical perspective... Good point!
-
Definitely want night mode, only way I use other ereaders
-
I also would love a dark mode. It is easier on my eyes, and one advantage not everyone realizes is that on phones with AMOLED screens darker colors save battery (so mostly Samsung phones). Personally I just work nights in a dark office, so it is much easier on my eyes.

For the iPhone at least, I've found that inverting my colors using the accessibility shortcut works well for night mode. At least until that feature is available, perhaps others could see if it works on Android?
-
@carolinefelicity If you have IOS theres actually a way for you to open the ebook on iBooks and turn on nightmode without inverting colours. Click on the "AA" sign and turn on "night mode"
-
@phobes Yes, I use that. I was referring to the j-novel app which doesn't support changing colors
-
Sorry for the thread from the dead thing, but +1 to really wanting that night reading mode for medical reasons.
There is an invert colours in Android's accessibility options, but with on screen nav controls (in my case, Nexus) the bottom nav bar somehow ends up worse than the whole page being white originally.
-
@smashman42 Even if the thread is dead the theme is still relevant.
If you're interested, I can try doing android builds of my app. Last I tried the UI wasn't pretty (it looked like android 2.3, hello from 2010, at least it's mainly grey-colored), page swiping somehow broke along the way, and I'll need to reinstall JDK, but I can make it work without too much effort. -
@_08 That's a kind offer, is it okay to do that when they have an official app for Android? From reading your app thread with WP not being able to read at all it makes sense for Sam to be okay with it, but this might not be ok.
Is there any way of finding out whether a night mode would even be on the to do list for the official app, let alone as a priority? Like if it happened to be coming soon officially anyway I wouldn't want to trouble you.

Seeing some of metrics about my app I'm pretty sure it won't ever matter in any significant way, especially since I don't plan to put it on Play store.

I'm pretty sure it is planned, but there's no ETA for update and last update was almost nine months ago.
As for "troubling": I'm going to try android builds either way, just not sure when and if I should upload it in all its imperfection. -
9 months since the last update? Uh, guess I'd be keen for your version to try when you get around to it then. Would you post about it in this thread, the WP thread, or somewhere else? Would like to watch the right thread for a notification.
Edit: Oh, I'm not a programmer or anything but I do have the Android SDK tools on my laptop to rip logcats & what not if it'd help you.

Probably both.

@smashman42 Done. The package is in the google drive folder (/0.1.2/RokujoumaReader.RokujoumaReader.apk)
