Kind of weebish not to translate it as bullet train. Was there some specific reason for not doing so. Just felt the need to post feedback on this since it caught my eye in chapter 1.

@aruseus493 bullet train sounds old fashioned to me. I think Shinkansen is used in official Japanese tourist materials as well so I wouldn’t call it “weebish” at all.

I say weebish cause it's not a word even normal anime/magna/LN fans would know at the drop of a hat. Stuff like tsundere see practical regular use while bullet train is often localized as such.

Currently on chapter 5 a couple pages after the illustration of Iris. Oyaji is also weebish with no excuse in my opinion. That should have been translated straight as Old Man.

Edit now that I think about it, oyaji can be summed up as the character himself being a weeb.

That's basically the reason. In the Japanese it's actually written in English, as

              ニホンゴのつまらんジョークか! OYAJI‐Gagsか!

so it seemed more in the spirit to leave it.

Took me a few minutes to realize the character was a gigantic weeaboo.

I disagree on this one. I think that outside of weeb circles, Shinkansen is actually one of the more common things for someone to know it’s name from Japan. My dad probably knows what it is (and he is as far from a weeb as you can get, I doubt he even knows what pocky is). In fact it comes up in autocorrect on my iPhone whereas tsundere doesn’t. It’s ubiquitous in the same way that the BART is in SF and “the Tube” is in London.
