Posting a suggestion that locked topics be knocked off the sub-forum into some other, that way more unlicensed stuff floats to the top. I typically sort by most votes cause it's interesting but at some point, Sam will have licensed everything on the first page creating a weird locked sub-forum.

I am wondering, would it be ok to make a post about a type of LN we would like to see? Like if I want to see more Shojo titles or if I want to see pure MMO LN I make a post about that where the discussion stays on that one point. I think this type of thing can work as there are so many LN that JNC can get titles based of these type of posts but people may not have suggested them yet.

maybe a place where we can take polls to help decide what series everybody would want J-Novel to translate. It will give us a chance for us to hopefully have one of the novels we really wanted to get translated a chance. Plus it gives a chance to look a different types of light novels so we can try new light novels.

@jjch102296 Each title nominated in the suggestions forum has a place to up-vote it in the lower right corner of the first message. Right next to "Reply Quote", the "^(number)" is how many votes it's gotten. Click the "^" to add your vote.

And you might want to read this:

What JNC is doing right now will give readers a chance to try new different light novels, a pure voting system would lead to the most “popular” light novels getting licensed and nothing that is truly niche, and small time.

Many of the titles JNC has right now such as Der Werewolf, Elf-San, infinite Dendrogram, etc. would probably not have been licensed as early as they were if at all.

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

@someoldguy how many votes does it take for them to consider it? I was thinking about a couple of light novels I want J-Novel to pick up.

                  • True Tenchi Muyo gxp

                  • Isekai Nonbiri Nouka = Farming Life in Another World

                  • Saikyou no Shuzoku ga Ningen datta Ken = Humans are the Strongest Race ~Starting a Slow Life with an Elf Wife in a Different World~

                  • Campione

Those are a few that i can think of off the top of my head

There is no set “number of votes” that will make a title considerable for licensing, technically all titles that JNC has access to are “potential” licensing material. Wether the a title has a suggestion topic or not, whether a topic has 1 vote or 100 votes will only make a minor difference in whether it is licensed or not.

Personally speaking I feel that the suggestion subform is just like an extra padding of reassurance after a license acquisition is already moving forward.

I will repeat what I said in a different thread to you:
@rahul-balaggan said in suggestion: Tenchi Muyo! GXP Light novels:

                    @jjch102296
there is probably little that individuals can do to persuade JNC to license any particular title.

It all comes down to what they actually have access to license, and what the people in charge feel will be a profitable seller.

It has been said before but these suggestion topics are just 1 small part of many things that go into deciding what JNC licenses.

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

@rahul-balaggan still it doesn't make it any less frustrating. I mean if they would notify someone saying a number of votes will get interested and would consider it more likely. Or they would tell us that the novel we want isn't able to be able to license by J-Novel. I am really sorry but I am the impatient type.

Lol maybe 1.5k upvotes would be a deal maker.

They have licensed books that don't even have a suggestion topic, and they have licensed books that have a ton of votes. Nothing you do can guarantee anything from JNC's side, and they oftentimes can't discuss details on their dealings in order to maintain good relationships with LN companies.

Frankly, they do tell us this stuff, just not necessarily on the forums. You can follow their Twitter or CuriousCat for these kinds of tidbits. Otherwise, just pay attention to the licensing discussions that have gone on.

Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

Would it be worth having a poll within the topic itself, to assist in guaging onsite engagement with any particular suggestion.

                            Maybe, like.

                            Would you buy 100%
                            Does this sound interesting
                            Not Interested

As the options. This then can be compared against the viewership on any particular thread and other analytic information that JNC collects, in the future that allows for proper weighting.

For example, with enough data it may prove that the people who vote on these are a % against total engagement (viewership of the thread), but a different % in relation to actual volume sales, and this would allow for a better way of understanding the value of the poll if any, and how it should be weighted when making business decisions surrounding licensing.

@Tremarl Sounds interesting though there are 2 main issues that I can see. One is that seems like the way polls work, that would be up to whoever makes the topic to set up, the second is that I wonder how many people would actually vote? Even with the upvote to show support system we have now, the vast majority of suggestions (even ones where they do eventually get licensed by JNC) typically have very low participation anyway.

I know there's a post around here somewhere, but it basically says that licensing suggestions topics are more of a way for staff to know there's at least some pre-existing support for a license because these topics only have an incredibly minuscule weight when it comes to licensing decisions.

My top three favorite light novel themes are villainess protagonist, demon king protagonist, and light novel with educational elements in them (like military tactics/strategy, economics, and public administration). J-Club already has a number of them and God praise you for it. The first two thrill me with characters not allowing their titles to dictate their lives, and the last make learning usually boring subjects fun. Some great picks would be:

                                Milady Wants to Relax

I Will be a Villainess Who Will Go Down in History

Maoyuu/Be Mine Hero! I Refuse! (the manga is licensed but not the novel)

Demon King Urban Development! The Strongest Dungeon Is An Urban City

San Tairiku Eiyuuki/Hero of the Three Continents

                                Isekai Kenkokuki/Otherworld Nation Founding Chronicles

However, there are two stories that I would throw all my current novels, and manga; novels and comics both Japan and Western (minus the Bible) to read.

A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives

                                &

                                Id-The Greatest Fantasy Fusion (Korean)

These are not well known. However, they also the most underrated stories I’ve ever come across and I’ve read a lot. The first is a heart throbbing fantasy-romance with constant thrills and suspense. I’ve watched the anime on Crunchyroll so many times I’ve memorized all the lines. I always watch with bated breath praying the protagonists’ love will overcome a world that refuses to let them to be together.

Id is a masterpiece fusing Korean and Western fantasy themes. It has action, adventure, fantasy, comedy, romance, and a hint of tragedy. The plot is very original, the protagonist (Id) is isekaied from his Korean-Fantasy home world to a Western-Fantasy themed world. He carries with him a magic sword inhabited by a female spirit. He then meets a female elf whom he develops a romantic relationship with. The girl sword is also in love with Id. She watches jealousy as Id and the elf grow close. Tragically, she can do nothing because since she does not possess a physical body, her love will never come to fruition. All the while she must support Id as he is forced to fight power-hungry nobles, mad magicians, evil gods, and warriors who possess enough power to destroy nations single handed. All the while he is constantly mistaken as a girl because he’s too beautiful! Even fighting a battle in a dress!

Id was very well received selling over hundred thousand copies. Sadly the publishing company went bankrupt because its other novels and comics were poorly received. Last I checked the author was still active, but saying his progress has slowed to a crawl would be an understatement. Every night, for nearly ten years, I’ve literally prayed to God that they would be revived. I guarantee if J-Club requested and got permission to publish, it would be well received; attention would be drawn to it again and the author will be inspired to continue his great work. I would even be willing to help translate and edit it full time free of charge, and
in my will leave everything I own to J-Club.

A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives is the most epic romance any I've ever watched. I've watched it so much I've memorized every scene. Here is a link to a trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BnZ5C15OHE
ADHSL also has great reviews on Baka Updates: https://www.mangaupdates.com/series/a9ctj23/itsuka-tenma-no-kuro-usagi-novel
I'd cry tears of joy if someone licensed the novel for translation.
Main character catchphrase: “I’ll die seven times for sake.”
