So, we didn’t get a license announcement for this series at AX. But it seems that some of the license announcements were from series I’m not familiar with, so do you think that with many/most of the very popular series getting licensed and relationships with Japanese licensors improving that there’s a better chance Chivalry of a Failed Knight will get licensed eventually?

I'd say the really high-profile series like this, Date-A-Live, Highschool DxD, etc., are in the territory of "everyone and their mothers know that 'les fans' want it, so there are probably reasons it hasn't still gotten licensed despite that." Until we know what those reasons are, it'll be very hard to guess whether chances have gone up or down.

I think I remember something about the Japanese licensor didn’t want to do an ebook only release; however, now that JNC and everyone else is doing print runs hopefully that is no longer an issue. As for any other issues, I have no idea however out of all the novels I’m familiar with this is the one that I hope gets licensed the most.

I hope it isn’t a case where JNC or others don’t want to license a series where there is a perceived disadvantage in the marketability because of extensive fan translation being available. Unfortunately there’s only so many translator (and editor) man/hours available and JNC has to allocate them to titles that they perceive will get the most return on the investment of licensing fees. If fans have already read and are satisfied with the fan translations this would lead JNC to steer the resources elsewhere

                I read banned books

Yes this would be extremely unfortunate as I (and more than likely, many others) refuse to read any fan translation, whether it be ethical or some other reasons. So as it stands we will never get to enjoy those good? higher profile series.

I see what you’re saying however they just licensed Altina, I think it was, that had a much more extensive fan translation than Chivalry does. Not to mention that Chivalry is many volumes well beyond any fan translation that I’m aware of. I haven’t kept up with it as I keep praying this gets licensed. From the others I’ve spoken to that also like Rakudai they’re e all looking for it to get licensed as well so I don’t think any old FT would impede that, hopefully. I know many people that would purchase the series so hopefully there isn’t a negative perception that you mentioned and we can see this series get licensed soon, by JNC or one of the other publishers. I’d just be happy that it was licensed, lol.

Considering how many translators have been requested to continue the series, it does appear to be popular. I know I am a fan..
The poorer version i. E. Asterisk was given an official, so maybe someday.
I prefer a Mc who makes a decision and the Ikki and Stella romance is a big breath of fresh air.

I’d like to see this as well. I wonder if the publisher just wants too much$$

@jon-mitchell I hope that’s not the case, as I want to see Chivalry get an official translation more than any other series. Yen Press has licensed several other novels from SoftBank Creative, so I’m hoping that it’s not they want too much and more so that now that the other series they wanted have been licensed by them and now Chivalry will be at the top of the next batch of licenses they procure.

AFAIK, not that much has been licensed in English from SB Creative in general, so maybe they're just a tough crowd. It really sucks, though, this series deserves more exposure and the fan translation is reeeeeeally spotty, even if it covers a decent chunk of the series so far.

@drone205 Would love to see a english translation of this. Not only liked the anime, but loved the romance between Stella and Ikki. :3

@village-idiot I disagree. One of the reasons why i don't like asterisk, because it got two seasons and no relationship progress at all. One season of chivalry and there was relationship progress. Plus i would love to read about the tournament they put in all that effort to get into. :)
