Synopsis:
Life is a bad video game. This cliche phrase is, sadly, a reality.However, life doesn't have simple, easy rules. What it does have is irrationality and inequality. The strong say that they have a lot of freedom, but the weak have no choice but to live an overwhelmingly disadvantaged lifestyle. Therefore, it's a bad game. There's no mistake because I, the best gamer in Japan, declare it.
However, some person, who is on the same level as me, goes around saying "Life is a great game." The school's perfect, strong-willed heroine, Hinami Aoi. Furthermore, she says "I'll teach you the rules of life's game." Normally, I wouldn't believe in those words. However, Hinami Aoi is a character that doesn't even fit in a normal frame at all!

I was going to recommend this last night, but I figured someone has to have it covered. Yeah, I'd like this.
Iirc, this is the one with the guy who thinks life is a bad game, but a female gamer in the school is going to show him that life is a good game if you know how to work it. I don't know too much about it, so I know I wouldn't have much to add info wise, but yeah, seems Slice of Life / HS romance focused, which we could use.
Reading Strongest Gamer's opening focused on the philosophy of treating life as a rogue-like video game got me thinking about this again.

I like this story because, given the premise, it would be really easy to fall back on the trope of "treat life as a visual novel!", but they really do approach socializing from more of a lifehack perspective than a gaming perspective. There's one thing I was less a fan of, but depending on how it plays out it might be handled better than it looks on the surface (I'm following the manga adaptation, so I don't know how it'll unravel yet).

Viz has big announcement at 10am PST and, sure as hell, I want it to be LN imprint.
I think that's the only way we really get enough of GAGAGA bunko is by VIZ having their own LN imprint (Shueisha is OK with licensing outside VIZ but Shogakukan rarely does this and only under special circumstances) -
New manga chapter was scanlated. Have to admit I'm grudgingly OK with the romance approach. Or maybe I'm just trying too hard to see it as something "not OK" and not sure how to feel now that it actually seems OK.
- Tomozaki established that he was interested in her, even if he's not sure if it's romantic.
- Hinami gave multiple reasons to support that she's probably also somewhat interested in Tomozaki.
- They established the idea of "what's wrong with trying to get closer to her to see if you're really attracted?"
My main discomfort is they're still doing all this in the context of "the game of life" and using leveling/skills/achievements as context. But I mean, RPG terminology is meant to imitate real life in the first place... I suppose it's harder to separate the "game" from the "real life" when they're intentionally mashing them together in this story. Arg, it's getting confusing lol.
I think they're pulling it off so far, but I'm really afraid things will quickly go downhill as soon as one of the two starts mixing up "using game concepts to approach real life" and "treating real life as a game," or a third party learns of their cooperation and a cringey misunderstanding happens.

Still highly enjoying the manga. Still very impressed with how well it treats its characters when it could so easily fall into the objectification trap.
It's definitely amusing to see stuff I've seen on dating advice columns being recited by Hinami, heh, but it makes sense since a lot of good advice is more about dispelling myths or fantasies or one-sided ideals and recognizing the realities of interpersonal relationships.
