[New Life+]’s Anime's Protagonist, Novel Creator Cause Controversy in China
-
I certainly hope the light novel is not being cancelled, New Life+ is one of my favorite series being translated. I have already made sure I downloaded all the books just in case J-Novel loses it's license.
This is a little sad to me about how people seem to be looking to get offended at everything. I don't get offended when people mock the citizens of the USA. Sometimes there is truth when we get mocked for something and we can use that to identify our own faults and improve ourselves.
Sometimes I wonder if this cry of offense is being used to control thought and manipulate others rather than a real attempt at constructive criticism.
I ask that J-Novel keep us updated with regards to the availability of licensing more books from this series so long as they can and are allowed to. Who knows if they are going to go dark for a little bit to wait for this controversy to blow over before they start printing more books.
-
Well, licensing the volumes probably just got a whole lot cheaper...
-
@_08 While I don't have a lot of hope for this happening with online retailers, I can see a run for "original" copies at brick and mortar bookstores.

Please tell me J-novel isn't gonna stop translating this too. This is one of only three books I read here...
-
It's not really up to them. J-Novel Club licenses series one volume at a time, and even the existing license for the previous/current volumes is dependent on Hobby Japan having the rights to the series.
If Hobby Japan decides to cut ties with the author, that would terminate J-Novel Club's existing licenses and prevent them from licensing the later volumes.
-
@ultimatehaki Depends on Hobby Japan wrt licensing future volumes of the light novels.

Was really enjoying this one. Feel sad for the animators that had their work go down the drain. Figure the anime was mostly done.
Hope JNC keeps getting the LNs and the story gets wrapped up (saw someone else somewhere mention the LNs may be close to ending)

It is, as of 17 story was heading to the finale. Haven't read 18 yet though since I have it ship with other stuff.

Ah, so does that mean it ends in vol 18?

No idea I have not read it yet lol, the synopsis says
-
@jeremytmh Please spoiler tag some stuff!
-
It's not among Bookwalker's completed series tag I don't believe. =[
https://bookwalker.jp/search/?order=release&qcat=3&qtag=42
It is on Syosetu, so you may have an opportunity to finish it there if the author cares to complete it. =[
-
@malloc that stuff is the exact synopsis of the book in plain view though but I'll go and edit then anyway.
-
@jeremytmh Thanks, try to only read the synopsis of the next book not 15 books ahead... as the synopsis can spoil things that you don't know about at all but once that is the next book it really doesn't spoil things.

Refreshing this thread with an update of sorts.
I was watching a YouTube video by akidearest and it seems like MINE's troubles aren't over. From what the video said, he was also working on a manga called "Today, I went up in flames." and it got the same treatment as [New Life +].
Since things video was only one day old, I'm thinking that this might be more fallout. Looks like she references stuff like his apologies back in June, and HJ's NL+ press release, but she was talking like the stuff with this manga just happened.
If true, it's doesn't bode well for this title coming back to life anytime soon.
-
Is that confirmed MINE is the author of that manga that got canned too? I watched a bit of the video, but I didn't catch her say his name. Edit: Thanks @the-green-death for the article link.
That manga in the video sounded interesting. The irony of it being about $#~tposting is something else.
There's been a lot more MINE like incidents lately too if you've been following popular media and sports figures who have ancient social media takes that were in poor taste or outright vile. Seems some of this is a new political movement by some dredgers. James Gunn got fired after they dredged up some of his offensive Twitter history. Nothing has happened with Rick and Morty's creator afaik, but he was targeted for something vile he posted in the past. Some Baseball players' history has been dug up too, racism and homophobia in particular in those tweets.

Not a MINE series, here’s a good article: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2018-07-27/honjitsu-watashi-wa-enjo-shimashita-manga-cancelled-due-to-online-controversy/.134782

@Terrence My son told me about James Gunn after I told him about the video. It does seem like these sort of incidents are becoming more common.
@the-green-death It wasn't MINE? Wow. Aki never mentioned the author's name in the video. I just assumed it was him from the timeframe and nature of the comments and the fact she showed a piece of HJ letterhead mentioning [NL+].
The irony of this is amazing. The fact that it's occurring again is disturbing.
