I don't know if this has been asked before, but how does the novel licensing work? For example,
do you only hold the license for a certain amount of time, or do you hold it indefinitely. Also, do you just license a certain amount of volumes for release or the publication of an entire series? If the first couple of volumes are published by you, do you own the rights to any more volumes that may come out in the future?

      Just wondering

@Rufusking1 Good questions! I'm happy to answer them.

        1. We license the rights for a fixed number of years, with the possibility of renew of the license. Not gonna say how many years but it's more than 1 and less than 10.
        2. We've licensed the first 2 or 3 volumes of each series, and we will add on future volumes as we go. Although we don't own the rights to all future volumes there is an expectation that we will continue to pay for the licensed for the rest of the series, no matter how long it might be... eventually, anyway.

I actually need to go and license volume 2-3 of saihate no paladin for example, since when I got that license only volume 1 had been released. But adding on extra volumes doesn't require a new contract, just a new addition to an existing contract.
