Chaika the Coffin Princess/Hitsugi no Chaika
      Publisher: Fujimi Shobo
Author: Same author as Outbreak Company and Bluesteel Blasphemer
      Novel: Complete at 12 volumes
      Manga: Licensed by Yen Press
      Anime: Licensed by Sentai Filmworks

      My Synopsis:
Toru, a saboteur (kinda like a hired mercenary), is out gathering herbs in the woods when he comes across Chaika, a young girl carrying a coffin, who has been lost in the forest for days. They are attacked by a unicorn and with Toru's skills as a saboteur and Chaika's as a magic-user, they take it down together. Introducing herself as the Princess of the Gaz Empire, she claims to be Arthur Gaz's daughter even though a group of heroes had killed the Emperor (and took various parts as magic fuel) and his daughter in the war a few years prior. She hires Toru and his sister Akari to help her reclaim her father's remains so that she may bury him. On their journey to reclaim the parts from the old heroes, they encounter the Gillett Corps who wish to stop her quest, a mysterious informant named Guy, a shape-shifting dragoon called Frederica, as well as other Chaikas who are also searching for Gaz's remains-calling into question of who is the real princess and possibly, whether there was one to begin with.

      Why I Want It:
I really enjoyed the anime, so I'd like to read the novels it was based on. It's a straight-up action-adventure story in a fantasy setting with some mystery and a touch of romance plus the main girl lugs around a huge coffin on her back and wields magic through a rifle, how cool is that? JNC has two of Sakaki's works already, so might as well collect them all, right?

I vote for this, it would be great to be able to read the novel, I heard the anime skipped various things. And it looks like a very good fantasy series. But most of all, Chaika is Chaika !

I'd definitely put my hat in for this one. The anime was a whole lot of fun, so I'd love to see what the novels themselves were like.

I am saddened by the lack of responses to this series. It has so much potential and was a great series.

@custodes It was a ton of fun, though I imagine the books were a lot better considering just how many of them they adapted for the anime.

I really is a shame no one ever grabbed this considering how much I enjoyed the anime.

Just passing by but...I'm surprised that this is one of many Fujimi Shobo titles still not in English yet.

                  Akashic Records, Gamers, this?

...apart from Date A Live and Slayers, what's going on with IPs from that label? o.O

Are they that difficult to get approval or just that pricy?

@akashicwiki Older titles carry more risk, so licensors tend to be picky about what they take. You're basically relying on long memories in a fandom that tends not to have them.

@akashicwiki to be fair, there are a lot of series licensed from Fujimi Shobo, it's just that they have a lot more. r/lightnovels has a good list of them: J-Novel Club, Yen Press, Seven Seas.

                      Quof got a break.
WHAT'S THE STORY WITH THAT FREAKING BLACK DRAGON?!

I can understand that it's risky and all, particularly for a series whose adaptation was kinda niche to begin with. Still, what little I was able to read of the earlier volumes really captivated me, so at the least I'll hold onto some hope.

It would certainly be nice to know wht the entire story is, the anime really did have a habbit of leaving holes.

                            I see.

Darn. Guess the obstacle to build up will always be a pickle. D:

It's a tricky topic, that much is certain.

I'd also love to see this one in English.
And I'm sure Sam will license it eventually. (Yes, I do have that post bookmarked.)

We might get Scrapped Princess before Chaika, though. Since both Banner of the Stars and FMP are done now, Scrapped could be the next license rescue.

@doublemangekyo Scrapped Princess sounds like it'd be a lot of fun to read too. It was what got me into Sakaki's works to begin with, I think.

@dreatus I was looking into Scrapped princess the other day, wondering what ever happened to the artist who did the original LN illustrations.

Turns out he quit doing LN work and turned into mtherfck'in Mogudan.

@dreatus iirc there is an eroge they did and pretty much reused character models from Scrapped Princess for, can't remember the name but think it was released in English as Brave ________.

@hyperion I really enjoy the authors work so truly hope for another long series after Outbreak is translated. I’m a few volumes behind on Outbreak, haven’t read past vol 1 of Bluesteel but have read everything else by him currently translated. Great LN writer.
