Kuro no Shoukanshi (Black Summoner)[Licensed by J-Novel Club]

@rahul-balaggan All color inserts are usually available in the previews (like Kobo or bookwalker). I think it's safe to post those, too(?). I mean, one could simply link the preview and it would be the same.

@terabyte Linking the previews is fine, and some companies like Over-lap make at least 1 color insert publicly available on their website.
However to embed pictures that are available only in the official e-book you would have to take a screen shot and then post it on a sharing site, which then crosses a line.

@zing How often does J-novel pick up something? How many a month? Who are the people that decide it?

Also the license owners; as we've heard, the main reason Knight's & Magic hasn't gotten licensed yet is because they've been asking for an unreasonable amount of money.

It is much more complicated then anyone who isn’t directly involved in licensing a series can go into.
But to keep it short, if the series looks like it can sell (from the eyes of the ones making the decision not us) they will probably consider licensing it, assuming they have access to the publisher. Once again it is so so so much more consoled then that I am simply giving the short answer.
And this definitely will not make you happy but I highly doubt that the number of votes a series has in these licensing suggestions will make any great impact on whether or not JNC (or any publisher for that matter) will go after any particular series.
At the end of the day all these suggestions do is provide a very very slight bump to help license a series but that they already had their eyes on.
-
- How well it might sell
- How popular it is among English-speaking fans
- Whether or not JNC even wants to license it
- How much the publisher wants for the license
- Whether the author even wants it to be published overseas
Longer series need higher prospective numbers since you need to tie up a translator and editor for longer, and each successive book inevitably goes down in sales.
Series that are very similar to something already being done might have a problem of not feeling different enough to attract new readers.
Finally, the ballpark numbers for "we're approximately going to break even" is about 2000 sales, whereas the numbers for "worth considering physical prints" is about 5000 sales. Even Rakudai, at 118 votes, is just 5% of the sales needed to break even, and that's assuming all 118 of those people actually decide to buy it if it came out.
This isn't fan translation, JNC goes through official channels. They're making deals with people, and deals take time, money, and planning.

Added a poll!
Polls are cool now.
Vote in a poll, if you want.
Not voting is also acceptable choice. -
