I love the premise of this series. It also got the #1 spot on the tankobon list for the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi last year too: https://myanimelist.net/news/53160693.
Via Curiouscat:
Q: Is there interest in licensing "Ascendance of a Bookworm", which has 13 volumes in Japan right now, and got first in the "This Light Novel is Amazing" 2018 guide with over 600k books sold.
A: I have interest but the volumes are really thick. Might have to price the ebooks higher. -
Looks very interesting. I'd gladly pay a higher price for this one.
-
I would be willing to pay extra for it as well, which I'm sure would be fine for the sites like amazon or bookwalker but it might get a little complicated with premium credits.
Though I really think this series would be worth the hassle to get that sorted out, it's an issue that's bound to come up at some point even if it isn't this particular series.
-
Would also gladly pay a higher premium for this one. It's a really fun story.
I also admit a selfish desire to kind of hold out on suggesting anyone licencing this, because the current fan translation is really good, to the point where I'd be happiest if they could just hire the existing fan translator to do what he's already doing. I'm not sure he'd want to do that, though, since he already has another job (as a game dev) and I don't know if he wants the extra responsibility of making sure to have a chapter out every week for pay; he's usually very good at doing so punctually, but he does take breaks now and then for unavoidable RL stuff.
-
I don’t have a problem with the quality of his translation, and beyond just wanting to buy it officially and support the author, at his current rate of translating it will take him 20+ years to finish the story.

Well now, with JNC having licensed the manga, the possibility of an LN license has now gotten quite interesting...
-
@stardf29 I agree,I read the manga/LN in past and BOY it is interesting os am glad i got picked up...well at least manga for now
-
2 manga chapters in and I now also want the LN.
-
@crimson-wise I'm of the opinion that the LN is superior to the Manga ( I think that way about pretty much all LNs to be honest) so if you like the manga you would definitely like the LN.
-
Your wish came true!
-
Huh?
-
@catstorm Well, at least manga get licensed...
-
I heard there's gonna be some more JNC licensing announcement coming up. Fingers crossed one of it is this LN :P
-
I was planing to just take a look at the LN cause the manga is cool, but i wasn't able to stop reading ^^
After reading the Fantrad i can only say one thing: "we need it", the manga is good but definitly nowhere near the LN. The story kind of remind me of Mushoku Tensei first half in a way and manage to keep being interesting despite not having lot of action or a big driving plot, it also has some good characters devlopement.
We're probably going to get it licence anyway with how popular it is right now, but i hope JNC take it, i don't want to wait 4~5 months between each vol. -
Please give this a thought because the translator is dropping this!!!!!!!!!!!!
Her Post:
"When I was setting my New Year’s resolutions for 2019, “stick to your release schedule” was pretty high up on the list. After thinking it over, though, I realized that the main reason that I haven’t been able to reliably get a chapter out is because, quite frankly, I’m tired of translating this story. When I thought about how it would take me literally over a decade to get through it at my current rate, I realized that it wasn’t a question of if I was going to drop it, but when, and since I’m not enjoying myself anymore, it might as well be now.So, unfortunately, I’m going to stop translating Ascendance of a Bookworm. This was a tough decision to make, and I’m sorry to disappoint everyone who has been patiently waiting for the next chapter. I’ll be doing one last big editing pass to (finally) fix up character names and lingering typos, then go dark for a couple months or so while I figure out what I’ll be getting into next.
Thanks to all of you for sticking with me, and I hope you’ll come back when I decide on what my next project will be.
(If any of you would like to take up this particular project, please let me know! I’d be happy to set up links to your page once you get off the ground.)"
I am going to go into withdrawl with this....

Toss my vote onto this, story seems nice, and it's a bit different since the MC hasn't inherited any sort of super powers from being isekaied, isn't beloved by the gods and needs to rely on other people for pretty much everything.
-
Yeah. As someone on another forum noted, Urano/Myne technically does change the world through Isekai Science, but it's the Science of Martha Stewart, as vaguely recalled by a regular well-read person.
(Like Terry Pratchett, I am a believer that the "average person" actually knows a lot more "general knowledge" and trivia than they themselves think, so Myne's wealth of knowledge is realistic to me, both in terms of breadth, as well as the gaps she has to guess out.)
-
@unsynchedcheese I mean, she's a book fanatic. Just looking at me alone (And I'm not even a fanatic), I've read entire libraries worth of books to the point that my memory has basically reached a limit. If someone who just 'likes reading' (mainly because I like stories, but also because I'm curious about things and want to 'obtain knowledge') can reach that point, I'm sure that a complete fanatic would know even more and have read even more. The girl was buried in books when she died, even!

I've been reading the MTL of the webnovel past what's been translated to chapter 300 something out of 677. I would like to support the original author, but hate the idea of buying a book I can't read. So I would love it if this was picked up too.
