An appreciation for Kids media
-
Here we can discuss anything that was made for kids but we can still appreciate.
-
You know, kids may be simple and straightforward but they are NOT dumb. Some of my all time favourite shows are kids shows that's does not talk down to their audience and while also be a GOOD story regardless of its "maturity." I put "maturity" in quotes because some of these kids shows can get DARK. Cardcaptor Sakura, Avatar, Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro can get dark (some more the others) or serious in some places. Sakura seeing her dead mother and almost joining her, the genocide in Avatar, and basically every episode of Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro.

If we're talking about kids media, I have to bring up The Chronicles of Narnia. The stories in these seven books are full of great moments and character development, and that's before going into how it incorporates aspects of Christianity while still working as a great story for non-religious readers.
Plus, it's an isekai, so it's perfect for light novel fans! In fact, I recently discovered a re-release of the novels in Japan in bunko-size books and with new moe-style illustrations by the illustrator for World Teacher, meaning it now literally is a light novel series...

I feel like bringing up Teen Titans because it seems very relevent right now. I just love this show and I am really scared for how this team will be viewed as in the future with how things are seemingly going. Also Beastboy is definitely an Otaku.

I love Cardcaptor Sakura, a great and entertaining show. Also really loved Nathaniel Hawthorne's Wonder Book as a kid, an incredibly fun retelling of Greek mythology for kids of the early 20th century.
Disneyland is also a super fun day, I always have a fun time when I go. I even proposed to my fiance there.

Cardcaptor Sakura is and remains my absolute favourite anime of all time.
I'm also a huge fan of the Pretty Cure franchise, where the world ends apocalyptically around the last few episodes per series, in the best traditions of other genre examples like Sailor Moon. The current season (Hugtto Precure) is also rather amazing for dealing with a lot of real-world issues in a respectful yet easily understood way.

I'll just say that taking in Japanese kids' media (especially the legendary stuff like Doraemon but not limited to that) is great for your pop culture literacy.
Also ups for Kitaro. The new show is fabulous (well, the older shows may also be fabulous but I haven't had the privilege of seeing them).
