Ascendance of a Bookworm - anime discussion
-
14 episodes for volumes 1-3 might not be a huge disaster. There certainly is a lot of exposition and things in Bookworm that make the volumes longer but would fly past quickly in the visuals in animated form.
-
Even with 3 volumes they'll have to cut out quite a bit I feel. I also wonder how they'll deal with inner monologues here since they're a big part of this series, in terms of giving us some insight as to what Myne is attempting to do
-
This was posted a couple weeks ago on the youtube channel of "Crunchyroll Collection" - Ascendance of a Bookworm | OFFICIAL TRAILER.
It doesn't say so explicitly, but is this pretty much their announcement that they will be streaming it?
-
@hiroto They already announced it back in August.
-
Cool! Thanks. Somehow I missed it.
-
Lovely picture of Myne, Lutz and Tuule from the back cover of CD album containing OP song of the anime.

I'm really looking forward to this anime next season. This truly is a great story and definitely one that deserves an anime. I only hope that they do as good a job with the anime as they have with the light novel and especially the manga. The art work in the manga is outstanding given the fact that most chapters are pretty big as far as page count goes. So, yeah, really looking forward to this one!😃

New promotional video posted.

@hiroto The animation looks good. Looking forward to seeing it.

@hiroto said in Ascendance of a BookWorm gets TV anime:
New promotional video posted.
So, again, the PV finished with the scene from end of Part 2 Vol 2 which seems to confirm that cour 1 is likely to go as far as middle of Part 2 (hopefully not any further). Hopefully publishing of Vol 2 in November is ahead of the anime to reach that part of the story.
I wonder about next year (assuming they keep up annually). Would they go all the way to end of Part 3 Vol 5? We'll be at Part 3 Vol 2 in 9/2020, and get taken over by anime...
-
I mentioned before but the list of episodes only goes to the end of Part 1. If it dips into Part 2 there's more episodes than have been announced.
-
@hiroto Are you talking about their headbands doing some weird magic together? Yea I didn't recognize that at all.
-
might be some fast forward anime only end?
-
@smashman42 The scene in question would be a good dramatic hook to end the anime on, but the events leading up to it are so complicated/important that it would be pretty poor of them to just skip ahead to it and show it out of context. Not to mention that it's by no means a small scene. Maybe they're going to divorce it from context and force it to happen early.

Wow, I didn't know that crunchyroll is in Germany too and this will be translated in German too! Since vocabulary in Honzuki is heavily German inspired, this would be awesome!
EDIT
And French too!
Crunchyroll is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German ,Arabic, Italian, Russian. Not obvious if it will be simulcast in any other languages or not.
EDIT
Portuguese (Brazil), Italian, Russian. Couldn't find Arabic and Spanish.

@hiroto Yep they announced last month that they will stream worldwide minus Asia. Now hoping it’ll be popular enough that CR will invest in giving it dubs, though they still haven’t given dubs for Gabriel Dropout, Place Further than the Universe, or Laid-Back Camp, and those were very popular.

Glad to hear Crunchyroll got it. Looks like there is an opening out now too https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2019-09-10/ascendance-of-a-bookworm-anime-video-previews-opening-song/.150935
I agree the character designs are a bit different from the illustrations, but I suspect this was done to simplify production and make it easier on the drawing staff :) You can't have keyframers taking several hours per frame and expect to get a return on your investment and I'd like to see them be successful with the enjoyable story I've seen in the LNs so far. This is definitely one of my favorites to follow these days, so thanks to the LN translators and everyone working on it here at JNC for your hard work! -
Pretty weird. On her status update on syosetu.com, author mentioned that she heard that anime will be broadcasted in Taiwan too. So I commented that it will be simulcasted in US too via Crunchyroll. The way she referred to my information in the subsequent status update, she sounded like she didn't know anything about it. Since she is very closely connected to the anime production, I find it odd that she is completely oblivious of what Crunchyroll is doing.
-
I imagine they might be doing something like a split-cour or a pre-planned 2nd season? Might split up the anime in the same way the books and manga are, with everything after Episdoe 14 being in a "Part 2" season.
-
@tusf this is a relatively small animation studio that does barely 1 anime show a year, 14 episodes is probably their limit for now. If it causes a surge in merch and books sales, and possibly Dvd sales, then they may plan for another season. But all we’ve heard so far is this one season, with no current word on anything after.
