Ascendance of a Bookworm - anime discussion

Better to have all the anime discussions in this topic, if users want to make comments on future events that will happen based on LN knowledge they can just use a spoiler tag.
If users are commenting about LN be anime scenes there is no real need for a spoiler tag.
Honestly seems like it will be confusing at this point to have 2 separate topics, one for people who read the LN and one for users who haven’t. Especially since we didn’t do that from the start of Season 1.
Of course if it becomes an issue and users really want it we can come back to your idea.

So I'm bad with estimations and I haven't followed the developments with the anime. What's the likelihood the anime surpasses what JNC has translated? How many volumes does part 2 have anyway if we're at vol. 4/x? Is this 2nd season 2 cour?
Many of us here think this anime will only adapt half of Part 2
Some, yes. Many is more questionable.
It depends on how much weight you put into the idea that more would only come if they thought they could sell more books. That's a big part of what makes production committees work but not the only factor.
For now I'm just happy that their derpy little faces are back again. And amused that the new episode makes the advice to ignore the shorts hard to adhere to.

I don't mean that we won't get a third cour in the future, what I'm saying is that in 11 weeks we should have only finished half of Part 2.

@LurkingMcLurk Yeah, that does seem to match the pacing so far.

The opening of S2 is pretty weird to see Myne running, running and running. That is so out of character of her.

Ever since I first read about Otto calling Myne "Benno's Goddess of Water" in the LNs I have wondered what Gunther's reaction to hearing that would be. In the anime Otto said it to Gunther himself but it seemed that Gunther didn't understand the reference.
I can't help but think that this ignorance is the only reason Otto is still breathing, and maybe Benno, too. I don't think Gunther would react well at all to having anyone say such a thing about either of his precious daughters. Otto sure likes to live dangerously!

The architecture of the temple is a little strange (first shot after the opening credits in Ep 2). Presumably the view we get is from the commoner side of town. There is a big flight of stairs up to big doors, but evidently a couple of floors are below the level of the main (commoner) entrance. It seems reasonable to presume that the big doors are on the level of the main ceremonial space, so unlike Western churches/cathedrals, this space does not encompass the full vertical height of the building.
Minor spoiler about what aspects of the temple are going to be plot relevant follows. No spoiler if you've read light novel part 2 volume 1.

Otto explained the reference as merchants use to Gunthar in the LN. Gunthar was initially annoyed/worried that Myne was causing problems by making too many new products when Otto was complaining about the work that was causing before Otto clarified it was a great, but busy, situation to be in.
Right so that opening symbolism is a bit on the nose isn't it?
Definitely putting this in spoilers for everyone just in case.
Also, the subtitles for the anime are absolutely terrible. "Someone who lets their mana run berserk" is translated as "a loose cannon". Those imply completely different things!

It's Crunchyroll... what did you expect...
I for one am glad that it wasn't "Funimation" who got it... they might have canceled it on episode 3 of season 1

@alfonso_rd_36 Sigh The worst part is that anime translation quality was objectively better in fansubs; along with better translations you had animated text effects, text worked unobtrusively into signs etc and sometimes ridiculous amounts of background detail at the end of an episode (for example, these background details would point out that someones citizen number displayed on monitor was a reference to another piece of sci-fi literature and why that particular piece of literature was being referenced here).

Sadly, it seems that Licensing seems to be some sort of license to do the bare minimum. That's the main reason I will forever be against Shout! factory's treatment of Super Sentai.
in the end, the important thing is that we can see Myne Sama animated, stupidly bad translation and all...

lol, so everybody points out how she's called "loose cannon" which means another thing but no one mentions that such word as "cannon" must not be used in the story with such lore at all.
-
@AlexUsman true enough. And "blueprint" is another word that shouldn't be used. But there's plenty of words in English that have their foundations in currently obsolete technology.
-
From the LN, I was imagining the orphanage director's apartment as having that quality of materials, but being about 1/3 the size.
Similarly, just how big is that archway to the temple, right at the beginning? Why even build a wall that tall, if you're going to put a hole in it big enough to march an army through? (I suppose we have to imagine some equally impressive gates which are folded out of view.)
-
Ep 17 covered a lot of ground. I thought Ella would appear younger and Hugo a little more chubby. Delia being tossed out the door was a nice visual. I guess Gil never actually got hit, bummer.
-
Honestly i didnt like the anime. Well voice acting is really good but other than that second season is kind a turn off for me.
-
@hopebestman it's seriously being carried by a top tier source material. The budget all went to the chibi myne segments, because hot dang everything else is a stilted mess.

They are going to have a hard time compressing all that character development into something that makes sense and still be entertaining for those who haven't picked up the LN. I'll still be interested to see what miracles the anime crew will pull out of thin air.

@Philip-h5 @cosm1cfall ofc im talking as LN reader. After i read the LN, i cant see as "non" reader so, yeah. However, that chibi Myne is cute, i have to give that one :D Also i started to LN because of anime. Also i become member to JNC so yeah. Anime made really big effect in me however, that doesnt change that, anime is really bad for a reader.

I might have to rewatch ep.18 before commenting.
Maybe it's frustrating mostly of the portrayal of Ferdinand. The post segments of the first cour painted a personality that doesnt appear to dovetail into this season. I was expecting a lower decibel thunder to show in the secret room. What happened to the eternal lectures?
