In the anime it seems like they pronounce the instrument like “fespiel,” did Quof ever explain why he chose harspiel?
-
@zwabbit
Could talk about how the anime just changed Wilma's almost rape into actual rape. -
@BunnyFuFu One would hope that puts paid to any notion of the author caring about pandering to people's sensitivities.

Could talk about how the anime just changed Wilma's almost rape into actual rape.That did kind of surprise me, as did the switching of the general term flowers to the singular flower in the sub. That went dark fast. Enough about the anime.
Maybe Wilma will be one of the next POVs in the book. The changes in the orphanage have undoubtedly been dramatic.
Sheesh, try to save somebody some effort and get moved anyway.😕

HAH! Take that, anime! Quof is right again!!! (There exist other terms that could have been used instead of shrine maiden, like abbess or something, but still. I'm actually pretty pleased by this revelation. I was even more justified than I thought, and I can use this as ammo in future priestess-related discussions. Nothing better than the text itself saying "oh they aren't priestesses")
Speaking of the anime, I've seen a couple people on other websites questioning the decision to turn fespiel into harspiel following the release of the latest episode. I figure you already had to explain this somewhere but my google searches didn't show anything; google seems to be awful at parsing this website.

Could talk about how the anime just changed Wilma's almost rape into actual rape.That is a Crunchyroll translation error. The voice was saying pretty much along the line of LN text.
It should be:
Rosina: "Wilma was tricked by a blue-robed priest and
forcedlured away
to offer her flower to him".
Myne: "Huh?"
Wilma: "Thankfully, nootherharm came to her..." -
@Philip-h5 Took the comment to mind by not animating Ferdinand and Myne playing scales on the harspiel though. Pretty much a minute of pans over the same static image.

@hiroto
I had a feeling that it was a translation issue. Thanks for the info. -
@BunnyFuFu
Crunchyroll

Rosina: Thankfully, no other harm came to her... But she has been afraid of men ever since.Muse Asia
Rosina: Previously, Vilma was deceived by a blue-robed priest, and dragged to a flower offering

Rosina: Luckily, nothing happened, but... Since then, she's been afraid of men...J-Novel Club Light Novel:

big difference in cause and effect, and also Rosina does not come off as a ... err well Rosina's tone is much better. -

Also... speaking of harspiel... the anime blatantly call it fespiel... now what?!
Just another example of how fiddling with German spelling will end up with different terms. Fespiel is closer to the Japanese spelling, but I believe the fe is from "harfe", the German word for harp, so I spelled it like a combination of "harp" and "spielen" (to play). I thought this would give a stronger mental image of it being a instrument and less like a random hodgepodge of letters. Of course, this isn't objectively the right choice, and fespiel is perfectly valid. Fespiel is probably the right choice in the anime since people can hear the sounds and everything. But in the LN I think it's more reasonable to fiddle with the spelling a bit for more natural sounding and understandable terms. (Same reason I didn't go with Dapula / Dalua / whatever for the apprentice names. Felt like they stuck out hard among the other terms, and were hard to get a clear grip on, so I went with more directly German inspired terms.)

I'm looking at the anime right now on Crunchyroll and it says harspiel. Maybe someone did a quick edit?
-
@LIbri-Liberorum I think they're saying the Voice Actors in the Anime said the word Fespiel while the subtitles wrote Harspiel.
This is definitely a foreshadowing of what's going to happen should they get to Rozemyne's name change at some stage.

Usually done as a cost saving exercise so they can put the animation budget elsewhere, which could mean we'll get an amazing scene in later episodes or it could just be them cutting costs where they can because the overall budget is pretty thin.

When Myne and Ferdinand talked in secret with the magical tool Ferdinands eyes where closed all the time.
Somehow, that was a little bit dissturbing, in my opinion... -
@CamChar Considering the lockdowns across the world I reckon corners were cut to get it out the door. Bookworm has taken a noticeable dip in animation quality in S2.
-
@sniper_samurai except wasn't it announced that work on this season was done long before the pandemic?
-
I liked this last episode. Had a good laugh seeing Ferdinand play and sing with the instrument. I just didn't quite picture it that way I guess. But, that aside I'm still loving the anime thus far.
-
@cosm1cfall No, it was only stated that production had finished before the start of the season. Series have been impacted by Covid 19 since February.
