Ascendance of a Bookworm - anime discussion

@theredjet Nah, it's likely only the first 3 volumes will be adapted. That Part 2 scene in the trailer is from the first episode.
-
@paul-nebeling & @TheRedJet I misread a few things earlier in the thread & thought the first arc (part 1 vols 1-3 I assume?) would be a quick montage then the season would be mostly the second and third parts/arcs.
If it is really just parts 1 & 2 (7 volumes) that isn't too spoilerific, I guess? Though the team here have not long started vol 1 of part 2 (part 4 of 12?), then at best part 2 vol 2 might be finished by the end of it airing, so between one and a half & two vols of spoilers.
Am I on the right page now do ya'll think?
Edit: @tusf they had a scene in the end of the trailer that didn't match up with anything by the end of part 1 vol 3 as far as I know....
(spoiler tags contains end of part 1 vol 3 spoilers comparison with the trailer)

There is one interesting data point that "Cast" listing only shows characters from Part 1. Like Fran, who is a major character starting in Part 2 is not listed there, and neither Gil nor Delia.
-
@smashman42 Check out earlier discussion on Page 3. A low-res version of the first episode is already out (released with limited edition 20th vol (Part 4, vol 8)), and the scene in question is at the very start of that episode.
If you want to see for yourself, there's a rip available at the usual place.

A quarter page (I think) Ad was put out on a national news paper (Yomiuri) this morning to advertise the book series and the start of the anime on 10/2.
-
Just watched the first episode on Crunchyroll. Yea, the first 90 seconds were a spoiler that most light novel readers may want to skip until we get to that point (which supposedly is in part 2 v2). I think it kinda made sense to include from a narrative standpoint. The animation and art are simple, not overly beautiful or a trainwreck, but doable.
Edit: After credits has a rather funny scene too, so don't miss that :)

Interesting. I only saw the 2 min free teaser, but they just started from that scene, and then jump to the original beginning of the story. Sort of flash-forward? If that's all for the use of that scene, I feel more confident that we are only going as far as end of Part 1, which is a good pace for the translation because we'll be all done with Part 2 before the beginning of the 2nd season next year.
Yes, it is a spoiler, but the worst thing it is spoiling is to expose that there is magic in this world, which we already know, but a major spoiler for the people who is getting into the story for the first time.

Just saw the first episode and I have to say that I am very happy with what I've seen. The anime seems to do the LN and the Manga justice. The animation seems to be done very well and they are sticking to the story line pretty closesly. While some other anime this last season have left a sour taste in our mouths, ArifuretaHint Hint, I am getting the feeling that this one will not be one of those. But I have to say that the lead in might have a little spoiler in there. But with how far along JNC is on the translation I don't think we are too far off from where that will happen in the story.
-
Can't say I'm super fond of the art and animation but I still have hopes that it will otherwise manage things well.
Also, is it just me or does Myne look older than she does in the manga and LN illustrations?
-
I just finished watching the first episode. I'm happy. I didn't consider that opening scene to be any sort of spoiler, but it does frame everything as a flashback/recollection of sorts. That post-credit scene sort of nailed that impression, and I got quite the chuckle from the High Priest's "No spoilers, fool!"
-
I overall agree that the lead in is not much of a spoiler. I feel that they needed to show that this was a magic world in order to hook some of the viewers. The light novels do not mention or even imply anything about magic till the very end of book 1 part 1.
Edit: Added the "part 1" due to the odd way the books are named for this series
-
I will admit the beginning isn't much of a spoiler but I still would have preferred that not show it.
-
1st episode is quite good. the first 90s is something of the part 2 but its not something I will consider spoiler and quite justified because the story telling require a lot of narrative.
the artwork and animation do resemble 90ish anime tho. especially when Mayne do the "cartoons" narrative. -
It was interesting that Urano world was referred to as "era", sounds more like time traveling reincarnation rather than Isekai. That was not translation choice but the editorial choice the original Anime made. Seems to be watering down "isekai" concept for wider audience?

That also looks a lot like Lizzie McGuire to me, lol. That's something where it literally goes into cartoon mode for some inner thoughts, but is otherwise live-action.
Also, I would have preferred them not show that first bit, having no LN experience but still adaptation experience in the manga, but makes sense.
And even though the art & animation isn't amazing, this was definitely the LN adaptation I've seen this year where the pilot impressed me the most. In fact finding it hard to say wether I liked it more than Dr. Stone/Astra, but those are ones I knew the source of, so it's hard to compare.

I feel like there was some scenes that got a lot of atention from the stuff. Like in the market when all the people moving, and myne "headache" (lol).
But other wise, its very still and showing a lot of background while character speaks to save money. Its good over all though. Could have been wores (arifureta). Some of the jokes where funnier in the manga. But the thing that bothers me the most is the colour palette. Too much brown! I mean, really? I get it that they try to give the impression that world witout books is monochrome, but they took it too far.
-
I was amused that they used footnote in the Anime. Although, it is strange that this particular one seems to be in the original too.
-
@hiroto I think its because the way the narrative is from Mayne and High Priest point of view. so it more like Mayne telling a story to High Priest, There is also because the current world resemble the Past Era of Urano's original world timeline, which can translate into "given enough time" their two world will be no different from one and another (in books availability context).
