      @cosm1cfall

      LDM is wholesome?

I have been avoiding it because i heard it has some really disturbing stuff in it.

@catstorm The main character has a foot fetish, and there are some early scenes of abuse, but overall it doesn't have much questionable content in the text. Some of the illustrations might be considered problematic, though; I believe Germany banned (some of?) the book(s) on Amazon O.o

Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

          Finally read all available parts.

This story is super fun! I agree with the Lazy Dungeon Master feel of the comedy as mentioned here in the forum. More than that though, this is how I imagine "I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level" would be like if Azusa didn't keep a home base and just traveled around.

I love stories like this, LDM, and the aforementioned slimes where things just work out eventually regardless of how stupid the development but you let it slide because it's done in a fun, lighthearted, and wholesome way.

Anyway, all this to say, I look forward to more Campfire Cooking.

Edit: So my friend has been ragging on me to read Death March because it apparently has a similar feel to these stories. I watched the anime but never got that feeling, though? Was it just a bad adaptation or something?

The Death March anime did a bad job of portraying the MC's motivation, which after the first chapter (where his stats become godlike) really is to be a tourist and enjoy the vacation from his overworked life in Japan.

In the novels, the slice of life aspect takes over more and more, even as the MC happens to do heroic things as he travels because that giant Hydra was in the way, or those monster wolves were eyeing his beastkin wards as a snack.

It isn't quite as warm as 300 years killing slimes, but it's lighthearted most of the time and I look forward to the new volumes. I'd recommend starting with volume 1 even though you'll have seen 1-3 in the anime, since the LN version of the events is a bit better with the extra insight into his motivation.

Of interest to cooking fans, that becomes a more prominent part of the slice-of-life as time goes on. Fighting monsters is usually followed by finding out what they taste like :)

Different kinds of crafting also becomes a major focus, a bit like in Smartphone where Touya is always tinkering with things that might be useful for the next battle or just fun to play with.

Can't really agree about Lazy Dungeon Master, only read few parts before dropping but the mc came across as something of an asshole definitely not the same as in this novel. Just my opinion of course.

Death March is generally lighthearted but in a slice-of-life way not comedic way. Not sure how to put it better. :)

@catstorm the "human farm" is a little bit disturbing to think about.

Mmm, been a little while. Let's see... nothing is more important than my sleep. Spending dp on anything to do with sleeping is fine, all else doesn't matter. Luring and killing humans is fine because it gives dp, therefore bandits are fine and useful people.

@crey so what are you mad about, that in the light novel called lazy dungeon master that main character is lazy. Or that the main character doesn't give a shit about random humans.

@galactuskahn24 I don’t think @Crey is “mad” about anything, just saying that they felt that the MC of LDM was just off putting, just their opinion nothing more nothing less

All of that is true: People are abused (not by the MC). People die, and the MC arranges for that to happen to keep the dungeon and himself from dying.

However, mixed in with that, especially in later volumes, is some fun light humor that's similar to this books'. It's not a mix that everyone is going to enjoy but that's personal taste not good or bad.

LDM is some light and fluffy and at the same time very dark humor. It's one of those things that falls apart if you think about it too hard -- in that way it has a similar vibe to Monty Python humor.

@Jason-Maranto I agree with you this series has some pretty strong dark humor but I have read far worse. At least the translation for this series does the humor justice and the humor is actually funny, to me at least.

It is definetly not for everyone but I personally enjoy it. It can be a bit off putting sometimes, especially in combination with weirdness of the MC, but for me this is just spicing the story up. At least this MC has some pretty strong motivation to do what he is doing. Yes he is egoist but it is not too overdone. I am enjoying the ride so far.

If you can accept that the mc is a villain. This is a dungeon master story after all. Its wholesome for those in his inner circle and not so much for mob characters.

@harmlessdave Thanks friend! That's exactly the kind of synopsis I was looking for so I'm pretty much sold. I have all the available Yen On books already anyway so I'll get to them eventually.

To be fair, LDM can get pretty dark. Definitely not as wholesome as the other titles, but it has its moments. The protag isn't as problematic as he initially seems and when push comes to shove, he cares about his party and will do whatever it takes to keep them safe.

More importantly, the main thing that reminded me of it in Campfire though, is that problems are resolved in some stupid but fun ways and things just happen to work out.

I'm not mad at anything, was I ranting? No. I replied to someone's comment saying that I disagreed and included my opinion why. I was asked to elaborate, so I did. Personal taste, personal opinion.

If so then then vote for The girl who ate a death god

If by "is it wholesome?" you mean "If someone read it over my shoulder on the bus would I feel awkward?" then it is not wholesome as it has some uncomfortable elements. But generally the protagonist tries to do right by his allies and is not constantly cruel so it has wholesome elements.

                                      Stay shiny, y'all.

That's pretty much the exact reason I dropped LDM after the first few parts and am not interested in it. Not caring about people, even with the tribalistic exception of "except for my people", is more or less the definition of being an arsehole.

Also as for Death March, I was giving it a chance at first, but then I noped out entirely after Arisa's introduction.

I like LDM and it's dark humour, but I don't think it is possible for any title including a child whose name is slang for "sex slave" to be "wholesome".

It is much lighter and fluffier for the MC's party as time goes on (thus far at least), but that first volume is likely to be a deal breaker for many.
