Sorting novels by genre?
-
hello, was wondering if something like that is possible, to sort/search for novels by genres ?
edit: also is it possible to have a list that shows if a novel is ongoing and or complete or on hiatus/on hold etc.
-
As of right now you can not sort by genre.
As for the list if no one else’s posts it, I will post it in an hour.

@rahul-balaggan thanks!

The search box on web site and the one in apps supports searching in tags, among other things. Sorting by tags/genres obviously won't be good because of how tags work.
And here's a list of tags sorted by frequency because why not (can you believe there's only one science fiction title in the catalog):
-
That's quite a random list of tags, and if I remember correctly all occurrences of "sister" tags are on Yuri Vampire.
Since they are already displaying the tags in blue, they should make then into clickable links, cuz why not, the API allows that. -
@rahul-balaggan I'll bounce this against the Wiki page for consistency.

I'd like to see ability to search by tags
I'd also like to see real categorization by genre, something like the system funimation/crunchyroll uses for anime (they only have a dozen 'genre' tags and some titles fit more than one category i.e. 'Fan Service/Ecchi" and "sci-fi"
-
@jon-mitchell you can already search by tags, just type what you want into the search box. It's just not convenient or apparent, and the tags are kinda... all over the place. Categorizing is just another form of tagging, so a handful of good tags are in order.
-
I think we're saying the same thing- tags are fine, but we need a dozen or so 'categories" or 'supertags' to be able to sort.
and searching should be more intuitiveGenres work (Mystery, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Romance) so do broad descriptors (slice of life, teen drama, yuri, supernatural)
'sister' isn't a genre or a broad descriptor
I threw out crunchroll /funimation as I thought the categories they use would already be familiar to the LN community

Those lists are interesting, so thanks for compiling them.
JNC could try to categorise novels into genres, although some though choices would need to be made. For example, lndb lists FMP under the following genres: Action, Comedy, Mecha, Romance, School Life, Science Fiction. Which of these would you categorise it under, or would it be listed under all of those genres?
What might be better is for the site to have quick links to the top 10-20 tags which correlate to popular genres and areas of interest and ensure each series is listed under at least one popular tag. Or people could have checkboxes next to each popular tag and it'd list all novels that have one or more chosen tag. Either way the principle is to make it easier for people to find what they are interested in without assuming that a novel is only in one genre.
