How do your enjoy Light Novels?

They taste kinda bland but it is much better if you add sriracha.

Currently I read digitally only, one due to the fact that its easier and two I move a decent amount in working hours. I bought a tablet to be able to hold more books on it and while I'm currently not moving a load I can get through a part or a decent chunk of a LN before I have to start moving. Sometimes I wish I could have the ability to read and drive at the same time just to get done faster with a book.

@rahul-balaggan Can take some time till they are on the market. e-Ink readers were shown around 1.5 months ago in a convention in Singapore. Goodereader has a nice video which shows them. As I don't know the rules regarding linking youtube I refrain from posting a link.

So and to come back to the topic. I usually read on my Kindle and the prepub versions on my phone. Although some times I use the phone also for other ebooks. I am more a collector of paperbacks so they usually only sit on my shelf. Although I take from time to time a paper book in my hand. But since using a Sony PRS T1 I favored always e-ink devices.

With the exception of SAO, which I get on paper, all of my LN are digital and are generally read on my phone. I fall back to an iPad when my cell signal at work craps out.

While I'm on vacation, I might experiment with reading on my Debian/Linux laptop. I'm going to have lots and lots of spare time on my tropical island (second) home.

I read digital only because I can't read normal print. I have a kindle, but more often than not I find myself reading on the kindle app on my phone or ipad because that's what I have with me at the time. I usually read before bed, but I will read a little bit during the day if I find I have some time.

I greatly prefer to own a physical book over digital and will do so whenever possible. For digital releases, it's a 50/50 split between PC and tablet. I won't use a closed platform like Kindle so the only digital books I have are J-Novel releases.

Previous to owning a nice 8" tablet i only used the cheapest Kindle with Calibre converted epubs. Now i use both (while also reading physical books) :D

While reading i noticed that I can read fastest (also without becoming tired) on an e-ink display.

I can practically read anywhere like sitting or standing in a train or bus (public transportation in germany is a pain. Nearly every second train is late so you start doing other stuff while waiting ... that's the reason i started reading books before i got a new car), at home or in public. My favourit place to read is on my sofa. I have a large arm rest which is perfect to lean against while reading (perfect for physical books). It's absolutely impossible for me to read on a bed and before going to bed. After like 5 pages I'm in slumberland.

I also like to listen to music while reading. Thou it's easier if the language I'm reading is different from the one that I'm listening to. So no problem listening to non english music and reading english books.

Is this a roundabout way of saying you only like "spicy" light novels :p

My preferred method is Kindle unless I really like a series, in which case I'll get it in print. But really I'll consume stuff any way I can get my hands on it.

I get the digital versions and convert to mp3 audiobook. I listen to them on my iPod, usually at night before I go to bed.

  • I usually prefer physical books as I could read them during super idle time at work. Platforms for digital ebooks (if no physical) or prepubs are my smartphone or a desktop computer (if available). I can still access JNC website at work computer but I'm currently being cautious due to them supposedly starting to track down anyone viewing non-work related websites hence my slowdown at reading

  • On my phone. It's a lot easier to carry and handle than a tablet and I don't really mind the font size.

I prefer to read on an ebook reader. It's easier on the eyes if you read a lot, and a lot less hassle than physical books. I just wish they'd hurry up with color e-ink...

I do read on tablet too, or rather, I have to to be able to read The Ryuo's Work is Never Done! But that is fortunately the only essential one, every other title I'm reading or have read, I take my business elsewhere than BookWalker...

For LNs, all on my phone with a 6" OLED screen on black with white text, much easier on my eyes (totally depends on your eyes, for some people the dark background is worse, but for me the whole black nothingness OLED stuff works magic). I'd like e-ink for the eye strain cause the little experience I've had of them it'd be a step better again, but the lack of colour was a killer along with the terrible refresh rate, so the news that colour is being solved is a good thing, but I worry about refresh rate for reading manga on them.

For manga I use my PC, the much larger screen works so much better than the titchy 6" phone. Back when I had various 7-10" Android tablets manga worked ok, but stepping down in size to below 7" just made it too fiddly where I'd have to mess around zooming in and out too much.

I've got nothing against physical books, they just cost near on double here in Australia and I have run out of room for all the crap I have.

I don't get motion sick so can read travelling no probs, though mostly read in bed honestly.

  • @serah At first I started on physical copy then I heard about the In Another World With My Smartphone on J-Novel Club digital version only. So I do some research to how buy on Amazon and using a debit card and read on the Android phone.

Since then I curious about the Amazon Kindle, I invest to buy the Kindle Paperwhite and I'm not disappoint on my decision.

their pro & cons on physical & digital version.

@lynyrd-skynyrd Hey there and welcome to the forums of JNC!

I assume English is not your first language too?

It is hard to tell whether your buy already happened or not.

You can buy "In Another World With My Smartphone" directly via this website too, if you become a member. Instead of an amazon file, you get a DRM-free epub file, which you can still use on kindle too.

If you like that series, check here https://forums.j-novel.club/post/2239 if the version you can buy here has a bonus content which you would not get if you buy it via amazon. Maybe it can be to your liking.

I wrote some explanation and opinion about the membership here: https://forums.j-novel.club/topic/2831/newbie-s-opinion-of-the-membership-december-2019/6

If you have any questions, feel free to ask ~

Kindle doesn't support epub, you'll have to first convert an epub into mobi format if you want to read it on kindle...

@korppi Right. I have never tried that. Just know it is supposed to be very easy with calibre. With every other reader it should work with default. With Google it was just uploading and enjoying.

A mix of paperbacks and digital releases. I read the digital ones on my Kindle or my Samsung phone.
