Force Majeure.
J-Novel Club will not be liable to you by reason of any failure or delay in the performance of its obligations hereunder on account of events beyond its reasonable control, which may include, without limitation, denial-of-service attacks, strikes, shortages, riots, insurrection, fires, flood, storm, explosions, acts of God, war, terrorism, governmental action, labor conditions, earthquakes, material shortages, failure of the internet or extraordinary connectivity issues experienced by major telecommunications providers and unrelated to J-Novel Club infrastructure or connectivity to the internet or failure at an J-Novel Club co-location facility (each a "Force Majeure Event"). Upon the occurrence of a Force Majeure Event, J-Novel Club will be excused from any further performance of its obligations effected by the Force Majeure Event for so long as the event continues, and for such further period of time that J-Novel Club may reasonably require to recover from the effects of such Force Majeure Event.

Yes, I did quote the JNC Terms of service.
-
JNC Staff being stuck by lightning.
JNC Staff being blown up on a washing machine.
And this already happened. -
Coronavirus infecting their Korean printing shop.

The fact that something like "acts of god" is mentioned in serious documents always make me laugh.
Like, yeah if Zeus reveals himself and declares Quof to have been choosen by trial for a great mission, I don't think anyone would mind the delay for Bookworm and LDM. -
If they get kidnapped by being summoned as a hero all we have to do is summon them back. Just imagine a back and forth summoning war. Probably a light novel about that already.
-
@raitoiro Yes we would.
-
TBH, Kaiju was the first that comes to mind.
But if the JNC staff ever gets abducted via hero summoning, I think we readers actually WILL go through portals to chase and bring them back.

Blown up? Nah.
Eaten by a washing machine... that's another story entirely.

@Raitoiro Chosen by Zeus is never a good thing, I would try and get, like, Ra or someone to undo that choosing if that happened. You do not want to get chosen by Zeus. Source: Like 99% of Greek Mythology.

@TheGrimLich Not that much, he regularly screws up at the start but generally, he makes it up by the end, making the people he bothered a constellation or a god.
He wasn't revered as the savior god by the greek for nothing. The joke works with any thunder god anyway, but I doubt there any major mythology where the gods aren't massive a**hole at times, from Babylonian to Christian it's kind of a constant.
