Hey there! I just signed up for a year of premium and wanted to pop in and say hi.
Given the current situation with Amazon and the Kindle store, I decided to start buying my light novels straight from the source. What's going on with Amazon totally bites, but I'm really glad I stumbled across the J-Novel Club website and their premium membership program while I was searching the net for news related to this horrible censorship. I didn't really even know this premium program was a thing. I'm going to be buying loads of credits from y'all (I tend to read 2-3 novels a week, 1 credit a month isn't anywhere near enough!).
Without mentioning light novels published by the competition (I read a LOT, and sadly, a lot of titles are from other publishers), some of the series I'm working on (yes, I know I'm woefully behind the times...) are...
Current Obsession (reading): In another world with my Smartphone vol 7.
Started reading but put aside for my current obsession (above), plan to catch up/finish later:
How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord (Think I'm on like volume 3)
The Magic in this other world is too far behind (Think I'm around volume 4)Planning to read, haven't started
I shall survive using potions
Infinite Dendrogram
Arifureta Zero
Ascendance of a BookwormWaiting for the next release:
Lazy Dungeon MasterFinished reading:
ArifuretaSo yeah, all the above I've previously bought on Kindle, but I am sooo done with them. Even if they "fix" what they've done, I've pretty much lost trust and confidence that my digital purchases will be secure. I'm just gonna do the premium ebook thing from now on. I haven't tried the instructions shared here for converting the premium ebook into kindle format, but will be trying it out once I'm ready to start Smartphone vol 8.

Welcome to J-Novel Club! We're happy to decided to try out a membership and hope you find your experience here worthwhile!
-
Welcome, its always good to get fresh blood here.
-
Just as a heads up. If you want to buy a ton of credits you could wait till black friday. usually they have a promo then where you save a buck. Nevermind if you want to read them now. And JNC also offers catch up months were certain series are available in the membership to read online.
Oh and definitely get the premium editions from Arifureta and LDM as they have nice Bonus stories. And not every Bonus story is in the Short Story book from Arifureta. -
Welcome fellow Premium Member, glad you found us!
JNC is pretty cool about people discussing non-JNC series so you don't have to limit yourself to the JNC books, but of course for spending premium credits JNC titles are the only game in town. Most of what I read tend to be JNC books because I try them out when they are pre-pubs and then buy the premium if I like them for the artwork and in some cases bonus stories.
Out of your plan to read list my favourite is Ascendance of a Bookworm (which is also currently my favourite overall). Just be sure to avoid the AoaB forums until you are caught up with pre-pubs to avoid spoilers.

This is exactly why I avoid any threads about parts I did not read. Although sometimes you should also refrain from clicking on spoiler tags in threads. Damn my curiousity in the Monster Tamer thread.

YOKOSO! (welcome!)
-
Welcome! I hope you enjoy everything JNC has to offer!
-
Welcome! Glad to have you.
It stinks what Amazon has been doing, but at least now that you've found JNC's site you'll be able to get the bonuses that sometimes come with the premium versions.
Of the series you've mentioned wanting to try, Ascendance of a Bookworm is my favorite JNC title, but I also really like Infinite Dendrogram. For Bookworm, if you don't like it immediately I would recommend giving it at least 2-3 volumes before putting it aside. It starts a little slow for some people but speeds up later, and there's some pretty dramatic character development and worldbuilding that takes place.
-
I shall welcome you once you join the church of the mad Bookworm
Mod note: the following contains a VERY BIG SPOILER for Boowkorm Part 2 Volume 4:
In the mean time, nice 2 meet u

I'll avoid the spoilers thanks for tagging it.
I watched the Bookworm anime and really dug it. Usually I read the books first and then am dissapointed by the anime (Didn't I say to make my abilities average in the next life?, Arifureta, Deathmarch to Parallel World Rhapsody being examples).
But since I enjoyed the Bookworm anime. I'm sure I'll love the books even more. Theres just so much they can't convey in 12, 20-minute, episodes. Books are great, so much more detail, background, etc.
-
Oh yeah, the books have a ton of detail that got cut for what I imagine are time reasons in the anime.
Also the anime gave us an early introduction to a couple P3 characters!
-
Welcome to the
cultclub!!!! I'm sure you'll love the bonus content in the premium epubs, I'd even say that it'd be worth it to buy again Arifureta from vol. 5 onwards just for those bonus stories (the bonus stories from vol1-4 were already published as the short story collection, but that premium epub also has exclusive bonus short stories of its own so it'd be worth getting)As someguy earlier said, you might want to wait for Black Friday in case we get another discount, we don't know for sure but it's happened for the last 2 years so I'll keep my hopes, I still have some leftover credits from last year (outright bought 100 credits lol). Iirc in 2018 credits got a 25% discount, and last year it was a 1$ discount, so buying in bulk saved me a lot of money back then.

@Zaggeh Honestly, I enjoyed the animes for Average and Arifureta, sure, haven't read the novels but I'm 175% sure the Novels will be better once I get to go on the catch up for Arifureta (Not sure if JNC has the Avg. License)

Yep, I just got a pre-order notification for volume 10 yesterday. It comes out on August 20.
-
@alfonso_rd_36 I must admit that Arifureta did a great job with the first episode. I feared that we would have slow 10 minutes before the Behemoth arrived. Was nice how they did throw us right into it.

I was really hoping for Average to be a JNC release, so that I could get it here. Kinda thought that since JNC has another series by the same author (I shall survive using potions) that it was. But, nope. Oh well, at least I don't foresee that one being delisted from any online retailers, it's pretty tame in the illustrations. I really like that author, Average is probably in my top 3 list right now, if not my #1. That's the whole reason I decided to get survive using potions. They keep talking about it in the afterword so I need to check it out once I'm done with Smartphone.
Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome all. Already loaded up on extra credits and got my next three volumes of Smartphone. Using calibre to convert format then copy to my Kindle Oasis worked great (though, I used az3w instead of mobi for some reason... I forget why but I think there was a good reason).
So, yeah, don't foresee buying any more JNC books from Amazon, I'll just get them all here. Credit price is very generous too. I think overall, not including membership costs, these are like 99 cents cheaper than Amazon, plus include the bonus content. It's a win-win situation.
-
@Zaggeh I use azw3 as I can then use the custom fonts on my kindle. It has some other nice features but this is the main point for me.
-
@Zaggeh
...Some pointless info... Sam(JNC founder) said he really wanted and tried to get Average but ended up loosing out to SS. For some reason I want to say it was because SS was able to offer print unlike JNC(at the time).
