In Another World with My Smartphone Anime adaptation (Crunchyroll & Funi)

On the other hand there are anime that sometimes surpass their original platform.
I'm probably just going to watch the show since I've fallen behind on the book, though I'm worried that the PVs aren't really showing any strong animation. Looks bland to me. And this is a series that does have the occasional battle.
I want to see coattails flapping in the wind, dirt kicking up off the ground, etc. Maybe they're saving the budget for those scenes and we just haven't seen them. =P

I don't know who is licensing the anime for US but I don't wanna see no Toya or Linse or Else

'Translator's Note: "We already sent these dodgy names off to the printers for the merchandise, so it's too late. Sorry."'
😂🤣

Glad those names are for Japan only, but seriously...
-
It's airing in 12 hours now, let's hope it's crunchyroll who's licensed it.

And it is. Worldwide except for Asia.

I updated the OP with the link to the Crunchyroll page.
Looking forward to watching this tomorrow. Reading Steiner has said he won't be doing the subs on twitter, but hopefully whoever is doing them stays in line with his terminology as opposed to the Japanese merch.
For whatever it's worth, I'm guessing Funi will pick this up for a simuldub since Crunchy got it.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. As far as I know, they don't really "encourage" their translators to really try the source material or anything. I've seen plenty of weird fuck-ups which would have been avoided with basic level knowledge of the series before. Might be worth it to harass CR into making the translator read the LNs though.
-
@Aruseus493 Tbh, if they don't go out of their own way, I don't see much point in bugging them. My understanding is that even when they have minor screw ups, Crunchy rarely go back and fix the subs.
I won't get to watch it until later, but @ReadingSteiner didn't seem to mention anything on twitter, so hopefully so far, so good?
-
They got the names right.
-
Wow, talk about a rushed first episode. I think they adapted almost half of the first novel? I was thinking that the adaptation might cover the first three LNs, and the opening seemed to suggest that too, but at this pace I wonder just how far they are going to cover. I think the pace so far is definitely a bit quick. Quite a bit, like learning magic and such, could have easily been saved for episode 2.
-
I liked the OP. I thought they could've slowed it down a bit, but overall it was a pleasant start. The animation wasn't stellar, but it looked good enough. Looking forward to more.
-
Funimation just announced that they will dub the anime. First episode premieres July 30, and then it will move to Wednesdays.
-
@lazyproblems Man Smartphone was getting a lot of love before but now its getting a simuldub, kinda makes me wonder if the original publisher is pushing this series hard.
-
This show seems to be the poster child right now for "Isekai / Harem is done to death" debates. Lots of negativity on social media surrounding just the idea of the show existing. xC
-
Just ignore it. Unfortunately the vocal minority tend to drive opinions. I mean, it was the same with Eromanga-sensei last season.
-
I admit, I'm not loving the anime. I'll keep watching it, but it feels like they're emphasizing the humor over everything else. Kinda like turning it into a 4koma anime or something. :)
-
@dtta I feel like after reading any LN that gets an anime adaptation I tend not to like the anime, since 20 minutes isn't enough time to polish some plots. Sure animation looks fine but it can't compare to the original source.
-
@dtta Indeed, I'm more or less in the same boat than you. Also feel like they are just animating the main scenes and has no continuity/flow whatsoever.
Maybe that just comes from the fact they keep on dividing the episodes by scenes, but I do feel like that. -
@hyferzftw This was the way it was with The Irregular at Magic High School. There is so much exposition in that novel that it would have been boring in an anime but without the explanations of the "science" of the magic a lot of the show is just confusing because the narration of things is half baked.
