(New) App Feedback

I'm guessing this has been noted but if the paragraph is long enough, screen is small enough and/or text big enough when reading a novel the paragraph will just overflow the bottom of the screen and not show the cut off text on the next page.
-
@Iciely Yeah, our ability to split some paragraphs is limited at the moment and sometimes it just gives up and overflows... If you need the font to be that large we recommend vertical scroll mode.
-
@admin unfortunately not an option because I get extremely nauseous when reading scrolling text for any length of time due to a concussion (which is also why I need the font large) unless I make a really conscious effort to blink while scrolling. I’ll just stick to the web version for now.

I tried the app in my ipad mini again, and I see most of the weird pagination and font size issues have been fixed. There's still some weird line-height and paragraph/pagination issues, but these are fairly minor.
There are some features that I want:
- Similar to the "last read bookmark" idea, I want a "recently read" list. Depending on my mood and what is newly released, I skip around in my reading. It would be nice to track 3-5 most recently read items so I can read a newly released part, and then hop back to whatever I was previously reading. This would also be helpful when the app is swapped out, or when I restart the app or my device.
- I want to tap the left or right edge of the screen to advance to the next page. I hold my ipad in my left hand, and this makes page turning uncomfortable: I have to make an awkward swipe with my left thumb; or reach up with my right hand to tap the screen.
- I want the "Toggle page transitions" setting to work for all page transitions. The page turn animation makes me a bit seasick. Currently, this setting seems to only work for taps, and not swipes.
- Thoughts on universal links? I think that's what they're called. It's the feature that lets the user tap a URL to bring up the associated app if it is installed, or the page in the browser if the app is not installed. I use the RSS feature to update a reading list with the URL of the released parts. Tapping the URL brings up the part in the browser, and I don't have to hunt for it in the app. It would be handy if the URL brings up the app to the part.

Not really sure what the specifics of this would entail, but would there be a way to make the login page on the app accept password managers like Bitwarden? Currently (I'm on iOS) I have to open my Bitwarden app separately, search for my JNC info, and then copy-paste it in, but I know there are other apps that will let me auto-fill Bitwarden's info directly when I tap to enter login info. From what I can tell (aka brief Google searches) it's something to do with whether the app in question has a recognizable URI?
-
@MasterLillyclaw that used to not work on Android on an older version, but does work currently on Android. Do you have an up to date version?
-
@pcj I'm on v2.0.1 which is the newest version per the app store. I actually tried logging out and in again (maybe should've done this before asking lol) and there is a "passwords" option that pops up which will take me to Bitwarden, but I still have to manually search for JNC because it doesn't recognize my saved username/password as the correct option.
For other apps it usually mentions Bitwarden in the popup instead of just saying "passwords" (logged out and into another app to double-check and it'll say "for [app] - Bitwarden [username]"), so it seems like I'm still missing a piece to get it functioning like normal.
-
@MasterLillyclaw I am on iOS and use Bitwarden. I see “Passwords” in the area above the keyboard. After I tap it and it logs in with FaceID, it brings up my password database. Unlike other apps it doesn’t recognize the app as being attributed to the website j-novel.club, so I have to search it. But once I find it and click it, it auto-fills my username and password into the app.
-
@LegitPancake Yeah when I tried it earlier that’s how it’s working for me, would be nice if it recognized the app immediately instead of having to search for it though.
-
I hope this is the correct spot for this since it appears that bugs are also talked about here. This isn't the app directly but tangential to it. I can't seem to log in to the forums directly on mobile or desktop.
In the app's case (desktop is the same), when you click forums on the app, it takes you to your browser (Chrome in this case). You aren't logged in. Attempting to do so brings up the login screen but inputting the e-mail and password gets me the, "Invalid Login Credentials" error message.

The “Retry” button after a failed connection does not appear to be working.
To reproduce:
- Turn Wi-Fi off
- Open the J-Novel Club app. The “failed loading” page with the “Retry” button will appear. (As expected)
- Turn Wi-Fi back on and connect to a network that can connect to J-Novel Club.
- Return to the J-Novel Club app and press the “Retry” button. The display is unchanged after pressing the “Retry” button. The J-Novel Club app won’t work until it is quit and reopened (see https://support.apple.com/guide/ipad/quit-and-reopen-an-app-ipad79518d15/ipados)
I am using version 2.0.1 of the app on an iPad.

The main feed is seriously confusing to use:
- Sometimes I want to read prepubs in a batch, which means deliberately ignoring the new entries for certain series for a few weeks and then Long-Press -> Show Volume to see the full list of parts to read them in a row. This is fine while the volume is publishing, but if I miss when the final part comes out, I won't notice it unless I scroll back several weeks and inspect each part with the "unread" progress meter.
- It would be nice to have an explicit Part X/Y badge on each part so it's easier to identify FINAL parts in the above list. (Helps with the above reading pattern.)
- The "read progress" meter is bugged sometimes (mobile network disconnection?) and it will cache the wrong progress value in the main feed and never fix itself. After returning to the main feed after reading a part, it will display as fully read, but when you refresh the feed it returns to displaying the bugged progress. I haven't seen it bug out like this when looking at the same parts in the volume listing view.
- I can't filter out Manga or other "labels" of J-Novel series without just going and following every single series that I don't want filtered out, which means it's hard to pick out the volumes I need to read batches of chapters for.
-
I'm getting an error where I cannot log in to Forums on the Android mobile app - I am logged into the app in general, but when I put in the credentials I use on desktop it tells me my credentials are invalid.
App version v2.0.0
-
I don't know if this has been reported before, but it's been bothering me for a while, and now it's even preventing me from reading part of a novel.
The j-novel app does not autohide navigation buttons like other reader apps do, but is able to display text behind it. This results in a hidden line in the most recent bookworm release at 63% on my Lenovo tab M10 (3rd gen).
I've noticed it quite often, but usually it would only cut off half a line which would still be somewhat legible. My suggested fixes are to either autohide the system navigation buttons like is already done with the apps own menu, or not display text that far down the screen.

Is this a feature request thread?
Would it be possible for the app to remember the state of the reader at the time it was closed and re-open it in the same state? This has become an issue with me trying to work through the contestant entries. The problem is that every time I context switch away from the app (say, to my web-browser or to a different reader) coming back to it will cause it to reload, and it takes me back to the list of recently released parts. This forces me to navigate several steps to get back to the entry I was reading. I've had to do this maybe a dozen times now and it gets tedious (yes, I should probably work on my attention span, too).
It hasn't been much of a problem in the past, since I mostly use the reader to read new releases which are right there on the front-page when it loads. But I imagine that other users who are renting older volumes will run into this issue, so it's not limited to to contest readers only.
-
I saw that the original post for this whole thread mentioned reading progress bugs, so maybe this is known.
Some manga have an incorrect page count. It always seems to be 38 pages, even if the real page count is lower. The progress bar for the part is then incorrect and doesn't show that it has been completed. All the parts in have been read to the end. Chapter 1 only has 29 pages, chapter 2 only has 16 pages, etc. Chapter 3 actually has 50 pages, so it looks complete as soon as you read page 38 (I tested this).
I think this isn't so much an app bug as an error in the data for the manga having the wrong page count. Is there a (better) place to report these so they can be fixed?

Feature request: Filters for LN vs Manga for Releases and Series Tabs
Something I’ve noticed recently is that there are a lot of LN/Manga simultaneously being streamed. I think it is time to have some sort of filter so that we can choose to filter on either LN or Manga titles. Reason being that on phones (I’m on iPhone) the title gets truncated and it is not possible to know which is which.
Most of the time I only care about the LN version of a series. With filters that would make browsing with Following (starred) disabled more manageable on phone screens.

@anony-mouse99 Not helpful for the releases tab, but that already does exist in the series tab. It's hidden under the search (magnifying glass) function though

Ah I see. That’s nice to have but I’m talking about browsing. I don’t follow every series but from time to time I’d read those that are in my “read when I’m free” list. Searching is a much more cumbersome way to deal with multiple series since it will show only one title (words common to multiple titles excepted).
-
@anony-mouse99 yes, you don't need to type in a word, you can just hit LN/Manga, and then continue browsing the list with that filter in place.
