Winter 2021 Anime Season (Jan 2021) What are you looking forward to?
-
in no particular order - here's what I have on my list:
- Ura Sekai Picnic (Otherside Picnic) ---JNC title gets an anime ! premieres Jan 4th in Japan, not sure when Funimation starts their stream
- Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken 2nd Season Part 1(That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime 2 Part 1)
- Dr. Stone: Stone Wars (Dr. Stone 2nd season)
- Go-toubun no Hanayome ∬ (The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬)
- Log Horizon: Entaku Houkai (Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table/Log Horizon season 3)
- So I'm a Spider, So What?
- Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2nd Season Part 2 (Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- 2nd Season Part 2)
The above I've seen from reliable sources should be streaming on Crunchyroll and/or Funimation (who knows how that merger will work out)
In addition:
- Netflix will air a 2nd season of Beastars
- Cells at Work gets both a 2nd season and a spinoff called Code Black (I have not yet confirmed where this is streaming, but one would assume the usual suspects)
- Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun (Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki) (streaming where??)
- Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation) will this be streamed in the USA? how censored will it be? I LOVED the LN's
what have I missed that is likely to be good? what is on your watch list?

Beastars 2nd season won't stream outside Japan until July.
Both Cells at Work shows have so far only been confirmed to simulcast on Funimation.
The Promised Neverland will be Funimation and Hulu. (Crunchyroll has not announced if they will stream the new CAW or Promised Neverland).
You should check Funimation's seasonal lineup, they have a ton of exclusives next season, including Mushoku Tensei, Horimiya, Last Dungeon Boonies, Back Arrow, Tomozaki, Otherside Picnic, and Log Horizon S3, among others. It's highly likely many of these will also stream subbed on Hulu.
Nothing will change between CR and Funi for the time being until the government approves their merger. Until then, it's business as usual and they are still competitors.
I recommend following https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ as they have the official news. Also, I'm not sure where you got the idea, but the western licensors don't censor anime, only the JP TV studios require it in some situations so it can be approved to air on TV.

I've seen different versions (graphics to obscure nudity, introduced 'lens flare' for the same, translations using '&^%&^% ' vs 'offensive' words) of the same Anime on Crunchyroll and, Funimation depending on if you have a paid subscription, the ad-supported feed, and if it's the "broadcast" or "home video" version (on Hidive)

There's some English home video releases that have been altered from the original Japanese home video version (Koihime Musou(some segments were replaced with chibi versions from broadcast version), Tsugumomo(some scenes use the broadcast version), Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan(broadcast version used for the home video version), Haganai(a scene was replaced with the broadcast version))
It's not common, but it happens...

@Jon-Mitchell Well can't speak to what the streaming services are doing, but Japan does typically have multiple versions of the same anime that does exactly what you've described to the video with different streams airing depending on if it's broadcast television, satellite, or even depending on the station that's airing the show (BSJ vs ATX etc for example).

In no particular order my list is:
-
Otherside Picnic: will definitely be watching this one at noon with all the lights on, not a fan of horror but really I like the characters so I got check it out. [JNC title]
-
That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2: enjoyed the first season, looking forward to this one
-
So I'm a Spider, So What?: love the LN, its probably my favorite non-JNC title right now, worried they wont get to the really good stuff in the later volumes; cautiously optimistic.
-
Horimiya: adore the manga, romcom with great character development, doesn't rely on archetypes as a crutch, projected to be one of faves of the season
-
Cells at Work/Cells at Work Black: fun story, great action and you learn about biology while you're at it. What's not to love?😊
-
Heaven's Design Team: Read the first volume of the manga and really enjoyed it, it's basically a Cells at Work for Zoology
list of shows I'll check out but not sure if I'll stick with
-
Vlad Love: saw the first episode, thought it was good. Has a early 2000s romcom vibe
-
Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter town: Read the first volume of the LN, it was fun, so I'll watch it.
-
Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki: premise intrigues me
-
SK8 the Infinity: looks interesting, watched the promo and thought it looked cool.
-
Wonder Egg Priority: intrigued, like the character design, and original works are always worth checking out
So I have a pretty full dance card this winter 😊
