Time to Fall for February Catchups!

These three titles might offer a bit more meat than the usual fare: all on the shorter side, we have The Economics of Prophecy, Kobold King, and the super-popular Her Majesty's Swarm for you to check out!
Finally, start from scratch all over again with the Ascendance of a Bookworm manga and follow along Myne's journey to make paper!
It's a short month, so better get reading!

Yes! I can finally get caught up again with Ragnarok.

My personal opinions of course:
Kobold King - fair warning this starts off kind of cute and light hearted but gets very dark at the end. Don't expect a happy ending. ("Oooh, cute fluffy dog-people. LET'S BRUTALLY MAIM OR MURDER THEM ALL!!!")
The Economics of Prophecy - good for what we got, but it's apparently abandoned or canceled. It ends at a decent pause point.
The Magic in This Other World Is Too Far Behind! - starts off clever and fun, but in later volumes the lowbrow trope-y comedy really annoyed me.

@HarmlessDave I would more say Kobold King is true to how the genre should be. But I am reading too much works from Joe Abercrombie.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say most of the people reading this are probaby here because of Bookworm. But on the off chance you aren't, you should be! Definitely one to go read. Awesome and detailed world building, compelling characters, an ever-changing plot with twists and turns in all the right places. I've been reading quite a few books from here and it's still the one I look most forward to every week.

@HarmlessDave Interesting... I gave up on KK part way through the first volume out of boredom. Sounds like it gets more interesting at least, if not "better".
I'm considering Her Majesty's Swarm at least. That's one that sounded like it might be worth reading, but I didn't get a chance when it first started releasing.
And yes, @pcj is correct... if somehow you haven't jumped onboard the AoB train... we are borg. You will be assimilated. We will add your theorizing and opions on names to the collective. Plus, we have punch and pie.
The LNs are the real meat of course, but the manga is also good, and there are parts I like even better just because of how the visuals play out.

@HarmlessDave I got the exact same impression on Kobold King, thinking about it now I still feel sorry the characters after so many months.

Well now I’m excited, I’ve been looking forward to these catch-ups for a while. I’ve wanting to read these for a while now before I purchase them, I have a lot of books that I have to get. Now I have to figure out how to read all this before February is over.

Two whole weeks and I never got around to trying Teogonia /.\ oh well
I like Gamei Hitsuji's writing in The Magician Who Rose so I might check out The Magic in This Other World, although I liked the former in part because of it's more serious take so we'll see how this one goes.
Otherwise... Master of Ragnarok, Kobold King, and Her Majesty's Swarm all seem like they aren't to my taste, each for a different reason lol. And I've already read the Bookworm manga, of course!
It's a shame Economics of Prophecy is apparently abandoned, that sounds right up my alley. Is there a WN that continues beyond how much of the LN was put out?

@MasterLillyclaw The web novel on syosetu seems to have concluded in 2019. I have no idea how many chapters the light novel covered, and I can't tell how many total chapters there are since the count kept starting over each arc lol.

Just going by chapter titles the first two volumes of the LN and WN do seem to correspond to each other. And there's 11+2 volumes of the WN by my count.

I'm glad I read the Economics of Prophecy even though it stopped. It has dendrochronology in it, what's not to love? :) If it looks interesting to you, I'd say go ahead and read it.

Like many LNs Master of Ragnarok is much better than the dumpster fire of the anime. I'm glad I gave it another chance this month.
The anime has the same problem as Smartphone and Death March: in trying to cover enough material in just 12 episodes it leaves out the LN contents that actually make it good.
For Smartphone, it's Touya somewhat earning his OPness by spending a fair amount of time on training, crafting and experimenting with his powers.
For Death March it's the parts that make clear the series is about a tourist enjoying his vacation from work with his wards, not about an OP hero fighting the demon lords.
For Ragnarok it's the parts that show how much of his success is his intellect and character (leadership, strength and kindness) not his ability to use Google and the Kindle reader app.
(Those are just parts that stood out to me, especially in the earlier volumes of each that the animes covered)

Just in case it wasn't clear, I'm talking what's good in the LN. The anime just shows some ordinary kid looking up things in Google on his phone while other people around him do things. The visuals aren't bad though.

@HarmlessDave Google/The Internet/Wikipedia as the ultimate Isekai cheat just sounded pretty great. :) An actually likable protagonist is even better, though.

Can confirm that Master of Ragnarok (the LN, of course) is quite good. Especially Volume 14. The ending to that volume was amazing.

It might work better to read the LN first (up through volume 4) then watch the anime. That way your mind will fill in the missing bits and you'll get the visuals of the action.
