Hooray! I always wanted to see this series animated!

“There’s always a story. It’s all stories, really. The sun coming up every day is a story. Everything’s got a story in it. Change the story, change the world.” ― Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky

I guess they're gonna do 1-2 episodes per volume considering how much the author rambles on? 😅

I figure the ratio of repetition to content is roughly 3:1, so even at 1 episode a volume, that's still only 3 episodes if they cut the rambling lmfao.

That pic looks interesting, to put it mildly.

Let's just hope they'll cut at least some of the internal monologues...

Most of the first episode was spent on Rentt's inner thoughts. Clearly a faithful adaptation.

                  Quof got a break.
WHAT'S THE STORY WITH THAT FREAKING BLACK DRAGON?!

Damn, that pretty much nails it exactly.

                        I don't remember.
It does look WAF, and Rentt's internal travelogue commented that dragons vary considerably in appearance...but he could tell it was a dragon no matter the appearance.
Nothing else would have such presence.

I'd argue that there might be other creatures with the same or greater presence, but no one survived to file a report.
I'd also wonder if Rentt had actually encountered a dragon before, or he's making the assumption nothing could be worse than this so it must be a dragon.
(At least he didn't think it was a lizard...)

I just looked up the first chapter of the manga... it did look like that.
When I first read through the manga, I don't remember the dragon looking like this, and neither do any of my friends. Oh well.

Now that Rent has the ability to talk, maybe they can cut back on the inner monologue. xD

                            xD indeed.

Just goes to show that the folks doing the anime adaptation are paying proper attention to the source materials; this in regard to the dragon's appearance, not Rentt's extended monologuing.

Some how, I really don’t see this happening. I actually expect it to increase… staying with the source material and all.

The aimless and/or redundant rambling doesn't feel as bad as in the LNs, but that might be because it's gotten worse as the LN series continues and I haven't read volume 1 in years.

I had to stop reading the prepubs because the inner + outer babbling could consume an entire part. It's easier to take if you can skim past that in the epub.

I had to go back and re-read the Giant Skeleton boss fight because it felt longer in the light novel. Welp, the reason for that was because of the 4 or so pages of monologue. In the anime, turn away for a second and you'll miss it!

As of episode 4 I'm happy with the anime -- it's covering the important points like Rentt's first meal (chomp!) but also smaller events like the blacksmith and his wife recognizing him and the restaurant owner sequence. All while throwing away pages and pages of monologue that add nothing.

There's still enough of it to give you the feel of how Rentt over-thinks and focuses on shiny objects, and to fill in the world-building without slowing things down.

@HarmlessDave Meh. Yes luckily they don't repeat the same inner monologues. But damn at episode 3 I thought the same thing I experienced at every end of a LN Volume. "Why does it need to end in a cliffhanger". This was why I never started Volume 4.
