Question: Are these guys going to translate from vol.1
-
@hyferzftw How many of the still-active series are caught up? I know Rokujouma and Realist Hero are pretty well current. Faraway Paladin has another volume that isn't in translation yet. PtW, neechuu and BSB are all pretty much finished being translated, but their original series are all ended.
Edited to fix an autocorrect snafu.
-
@paul-nebeling also mixed bathing, big sister, occultic nine, demon lord is getting close to Japan, and Dendrogram is close.
-
@rahul-balaggan Big Sister, aka neechuu, is a completed series. You're right though. Dendro and Mixed Bathing are nearly caught up.
Edit: I thought Demon Lord had 7 volumes so far, but I'm just guessing. Clockwork Planet has 4 published volumes, but is it still active?
-
@paul-nebeling sorry I wrote demon lord but I meant for my daughter is getting close not super close we are on V4 of 6 and from what I have heard there shouldn’t be too many more volumes until the series is finished.
Also clockwork is on indefinite hiatus due to health concerns.
-
@paul-nebeling flagship though?
Longest series yes, no doubt it is longGood series yes again no arguments it is a very interesting and compelling series that light novel fans would enjoy.
However flagship, the best product a company offers...I mean I am not saying the flagship series HAS to be the highest selling series but sales numbers as well as prestige should go into determining a flagship series.
A series that when mentioned will instantly make people think J-Novel Club.
-
I'm all for Yurika being our J-Novel mascot overlord!
For me, the flagship is probably Realist Hero; solid series, solid sales I think. The heart and soul of what JNC is about is probably Sis-Kan... But it's on delay. =[
-
@rahul-balaggan Both titles have "Demon Lord" in them, so there's got to be a better way to differentiate the two.
Bummer about Clockwork. If would at least like to see what happens when all force of the Initial Y Series are battered together.
The status of WataFuta is kind of murky as well. Two published volumes and translating the second, but is it finished?
-
@terrence as of right now I agree Realist Hero is the flagship JNC series... but outside of light novel fans how would people know about the series? They wouldn’t.
I think depending on how well the Arifureta anime is done and how well it is received that will ultimately be JNC’s flagship series.
-
@rahul-balaggan Very true. I think the only JNC series that has gotten an anime while it is being translated is Smartphone. Unfortunately, the anime was sub-standard, so there probably wasn't as large of a sales bounce as there could have been.
Here's to hoping that they don't screw the animation up.
-
@paul-nebeling Not only that the anime was bad. I had some hopes after the first episode as their pacing was alright. But then they left things out, changed some and this really ruined it for me. Hell the WN is identical to the LN so why change those things in the anime?
-
@saskir What went wrong with Smartphone's anime? Good question. From what I saw, the biggest sins they committed were haste and omission. They skimmed over some things that showed Touya developing as a character. They certainly left out a lot of the development of his advanced magical use of the phone. Too much concentration on the ecchi and not enough on the world building. In trying to cram three volumes into a single cour, they skimped on showing Touya's growing into his ability and showing how he felt about the girls and the other people he cares about, awkwardly restrained as he is and instead had him come off as "Look at me! I'm hugely OP!"
-
How was the animation quality? It didn't look good in the PV. =[
-
@terrence Animation quality was ok, the action scenes were a little meh. I've seen worse. But then I thought the anime itself was ok, given the source material. I like Smartphone but it's not exactly high class reading.

UchiMusume is the Japanese shorthand for "If it's for my daughter." Not sure if there's shorthand for Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou, but the English titles for the series differ by using "Demon Lord" (for Uchimusume) versus "Demon King" (for Daimaou), so not sure what the issue is ;P
-
Smartphone anime did little to set the show apart from any generic OP harem story and did nothing to excel in any specific area. No individual element sunk it, but the animation and music were uninspiring, the world and character building was almost non-existent, the voice acting was a mixed bag, they skipped over or downplayed some of the best stuff from the source material, and the focus was firmly on stale fan service. One of the funnest parts of the early novels was the tale of technological innovation/discovery in figuring out the magic system and how to make productive use of the phone, but that was mostly skimmed over as noted by a previous post. Similarly the acquisition of his first beast was dramatic in the novels but almost a non-event in the anime. The anime was coherent and at times mildly amusing, but that was not enough to save the show from mediocrity. It felt like they made the anime because they were contracted to do so rather than because they wanted to do so.

I mean, you even brought Daimaou up while they were talking about something else

Oh shit >.< haha, forgot about that one. I don't think I know the Japanese shorthand for that one, I wouldn't be surprised if it were "IsekaiDorei" though D:

I call it Demon Daughter... I'm sure that's another series entirely. xD
-
@terrence and I've called it UMu from the beginning, because I'm lazy and don't feeling like typing out UchiMusume over and over again when I'm working on it. ;)
And for some reason, it makes me think of a University for Cattle. U. Mooooooooooooooooo-
I'll stop.
-
@sasha-mcglynn That just reminds me of Red Saber from Fate, "Umu" being her community nickname :o (it's like her thing)
