Calibre in Windows 7

The author of Calibre put a setting in the installer prevent version 5 and up from being installed on Windows 7, because they didn't want to deal with Windows 7 support requests.
However, some people have got later versions to work on the 64-bit version of Windows 7 by editing the setting in the installer.
The short version is that you can use a tool called Orca from the Windows SDK to edit that setting and allow the later version to be installed.
Use at your own risk. (Though personally I think the risk is small.)
