Comments:
The protagonist Ryo doesn't get some cheat skill, but has to train hard for 20 years (and almost dying a few times) to become the best water mage. So he's kinda like Makoto from Full Clearing Another World, except without the harem.

There's an elf lady he likes, but they're taking it slow, and in no hurry with their relationship, since they're both have long lives.

Most of the humor in the series comes from the banter between Ryo and his BFF, which reads like a manzai routine. It may not come off as funny to everyone though.

The side characters also get some character development and time in the spotlight too, its not all about the protagonist.
