By my count, that was 8 sugars Ronald took in his tea...Patrick: "I'm Patrick Ashbatten."
Yumiella: "...I didn't ask. Anyway, levelling up..."Patrick: "Wait, don't..."
Yumiella: "I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the noise of the Great Idea I was acting on multiple times!"Yep. I counted ’em, too, even as the Gakuen-cho and Yumiella began to speak again. EIGHT sugar cubes; it’s amazing 1) that he could even taste the tea over the sugar, and 2) hadn’t already developed insulin resistance or something....

William, Edward, and Oswald are that most hated type of RPG player - Killstealers!
Patrick "If you were the demon lord, the world would have been wiped out by now!"
Even Yumiella has to concede that one!Game Yumiella "I've fallen to the Dolkness..."
Did Yumiella just lose Rock Paper Scissors 2-0 against her own magic?
Yumiella "I know, what if I torture all our classmates? That's got to count as motivating them, right...?"
Ooh, an apology from the heroine! That's something of a departure from the LN's version of the scene... Though the Prince still deciding to go off on Yumiella for things that were, ultimately, not his business is much the same. At this point, it looks like the side effect of making Alicia nicer is making Edward more of an arsehole.
Aw, see how wide Yumiella's grin was at the end there? It was almost wide enough to be level with the inner edge of her eyes!

This time Ronald only put three sugar cubes in his coffee... that we know of.

Yumiella doesn't get many chances to lose at anything.
Alternatively: Yumiella just won 2-0 at magic jankenpon against herself.

I really like the alternative take on Alicia.
Yumiella's totally going to traumatize her dungeon training, though. Hopefully that won't be the end of Good Alicia, though, otherwise all of this additional characterization will have done nothing except make her later behavior Yumiella's fault.

Yumiella: "I've been practicing controlling my strength by not bending this!"
snapThat was very reassuring, Yumiella, thank you! 🤣
They're like a wild beast and a beast tamer? ...Yeah, that checks out.
Pretty sure Alicia and Yumiella sitting down for a mostly normal chat about magic wasn't in the books...
Yumiella: "I'll do my best!"
Patrick: "NO! Anything but that!"Yuimiella: "My sword's starting to crack! Gotta do something... um... oh, I know. Kuma Punch!"
Crowd: stunned and confused
Patrick: "...Where did she even get a glove puppet from...?"Yumiella: But I haven't decided how big a Black Hole to use yet...
Yumiella: smiles shortly before casting magic
Patrick: hidesSo, double checking Vol 1... In the novel, the conversation between Yumiella and William didn't involve William apologising for doubting Yumiella. But it did involve her laughing at him for being 'only' level 20. On a similar note, no apology in her chat with Oswald, either.

These, along with the talk between Yumiella and Alicia, were both in the manga. So the anime really does seem to be following the plot of the manga rather than the LN.

Yeah, everyone except Ed appears to be much better in this version. Ed, however, appears to be just as toxic as he is in the LN... which is, as the kids say, wack. It's good to see Alicia looking for help, and it's good to see Yumiella's advice (or at least the not-weird-even-by-our-standards parts of it) taken seriously. Like, "Try and think of memories of light and how it made you feel" is good advice for a soft magic system.
-
Yumiella: "I don't think I'll ever make a friend..."
Eleanora: "Yumieeee! Let's spend more time togetherrrr!"
Yumiella: ...She doesn't count.Yumiella How old does my mother think I am?
Well, if she's still 21 years old, you have to be a little girl, right? 😉Yumiella: "Patrick and I are just acquaintances. I'm sure that's how he feels, too."
Patrick: Busy drooling over Yumiella in her red dress -
Episode 8 was funnier than the previous 7 episodes put together. Ryu is the slapstick, Yumiella is the dry sarcasm, and Patrick is the straight man. They're the comedy Avengers! Also seeing Eleanora be so positive about getting chomped is some best-girl stuff.
I loved Ryu's little pajama hat! Such a simple sight gag, and so darn funny.

Just watched last episode. I am quite sure that they are not planning to make second season. :(
-
@Sekki Honestly, that might be for the best. The season we got covered the novels' strongest arc (Volume 1), while integrating the improvements from the manga (like the improved Alicia). I think anywhere they went with a second season would end up as a disappointment...

True. I found first episode to be very good but then it started to deteriorate. Ending feels rushed. I like LN. LN improved alot on WN. WN felt kinda disjointed but LN fixed that.

I agree. And yet, I felt that they left the door open to having further content with a focus on her domain. I kinda hope they don't, since it was a strong ending, but we'll see.
-
They took the best volume and made it better (yes, the improvements were already proven out by the manga, but still).
I also hope they get a second season - yes, volume 2 isn't as good as volume 1, but it's not a story without potential. If they took the same competence that gave us this adaptation of volume 1 and applied it to volume 2, I think it would be a good watch.
-
I think volumes 2 and 3 could be combined into a single anime season easily, because they're both action-heavy. And it would also get through that material faster so we can go to when the story starts getting good again in volume 4.
Then again, if they make changes to it like they did in season 1, it might end up being not as sucky of a story once animated anyway.
The actual plot in volumes 2 and 3 was actually pretty good. What made it suck for me was Yumiella forgetting all of the human interaction skills she learned in volume 1 (which she did learn and put into practice near the end of volume 1, and again in volume 4 in spades) and becoming a social idiot again. She's supposed to be super-intelligent and just thinks differently. She's not the kind of person that would forget something she already learned just because it makes the story funny (it didn't). So if they find a way to make the plot work without turning Yumiella into an idiot again I would be all for it.

@kuali I was just discussing exactly that with someone on Discord... They could make it work, but it wouldn't be the same, indeed. Alicia is still going to wind up imprisoned for stabbing Yumiella. They're still going to force her to level grind as insurance against Yumiella, which she may be just as reluctant to do, but for different reasons - in the LN she detested level grinding and found it tedious. The new Alicia might be averse to it because of the reason for it - she trusts Yumiella and doesn't think her being able to stop her would be necessary.
References to Volume 4 spoilers follow:

Honestly I was disappointed at the anime’s ending. I wish they had stuck to the LN ending instead. Yes the LN ending was a bit dark, but that and the surprise factor I thought lent quite a bit to the story in general. The way the anime ended everyone was basically singing koombya and was enjoying a happy ending. I much preferred the LN ending where not everyone is happy and things don’t always go your way. It felt more real…
-
@Segoth just to be clear, are you talking about the web novel or the light novel? The two apparently had very significant differences in the ending of volume 1. The WN was much darker than the LN.
