@jazzyjeoff Still ongoing on webnovel since its my main income. At almost 800k words right now, with another 400k or so to go.

Buffer is good, especially if you want to maximize growth and potential profits from patreon. I only have 16 members at the moment for a total of $120 or so a month, but the real money should come when the story goes to Amazon/Audible (or so I hope).

I made the mistake of jumping the gun and not having too many chaps buffer. So now I am suffering writing and releasing chapters daily for two books lol.

@Mugen You will probably have more luck in the creative writing portion of the JNC Discord. Also it might help having an anonymized version of a google doc that folks can leave notes on (you can adjust permissions to have someone just leave comments). You can also create a different google account that does not include your real name if you want to remain somewhat anonymous.

After a quick look at the first chapter it looks like it could use a bit of polishing. If you are lucky, maybe a few (more realistically “one”) person on discord might be able to give you a few ideas. It actually takes a bit of work to give truly helpful notes and criticism on a story, so you should make your work as easy as possible to leave feedback on.

This came up on my feed again. As the second contest has ended I was wondering if anyone else saw this pop up? Or is it just me? I think the "massive publisher's support" in this case would be winning one of the prizes for publication from J-Novel Club.

Hello, I am bit new here, but I am looking for a partner to swap and peer review with. I don't know if anyone is still here, but I am preparing for the next contest. I don't know how well of a peer reviewer I would be, but I would honor to help. I have written a Isekai where a teenage boy was first initially summoned to another world but them backstabbed by one his teammates. Now he was reincarnated into the near future of the world he was killed in, but he had lost most of his memories. I think the main pull to this story is the main character having trouble with his sense of self. I use Goggle Docs so it should be relatively easy to access. It would also be a help if the peer reviewer is able to finish their read through by Oct 20 -31.
Thank you in advance to anyone who is willing to help or even sees this.

hello? Does anyone read this tread anymore? I heard there was a discord server for this writing competition. Would anyone be kind enough to send me an invite link. I am trying to get some help with my writing. I know perhaps it sounds like I am self-centered, but I am willing to try to help others too, even if there are other more suitable to the job than I.

I think that this link works for JNC’s discord:

—once in, look for the “share your stories thread.” Getting folks to read can be difficult. You would be doing well if someone will read a few chapters. Reviewing and writing commentary is time-consuming and often thankless—with feelings getting hurt. That said, I can take a look at your work and give you my thoughts. I probably will read just a few chapters—if I find it interesting, I may read more. PM me with a link if you like. I am pretty good at identifying large issues.

Edit: there is also a contest link—but that is not really for sharing stories.

I've been working on a story with a female protagonist who practices yoga and martial arts, and I found some great visual references for describing her activewear and outfits. Check out women's apana clothing — really helpful for getting the details right when writing action scenes. Does anyone else use real-world fashion references when describing characters?

Assuming JNC is doing a 2026 contest soon, I would like to submit this year to the Ongoing Series category.

I've written 5 completely ready to go volumes and have a 6th close to 90% done, along with a detailed and completed series Bible.

I was hoping I could find some people to read and critique my first volume over the next month so I can have the strongest entry possible for whenever the submission portal opens up.

It's a multi-genre piece. The first volume explores how warlocks who have built a mundane life in a realistic setting to protect their family from a dangerous hidden realm learn to love, accept, and sometimes protect those within their community when they hide dangerous secrets and flaws of their own. How do their old ways begin to intersect with their cover life when ordinary life holds its own dangers? Its slice of life meets dark urban fantasy, held together by a family saga structure. I often describe what I'm going for as what happens when you drop a grimoire into Violet Evergarden, except your cast is something closer to A Silent Voice. Tonally the arcs range from Erased to Frieren to My Clueless First Friend in vol 1 — as the series open up it is a bit more like Frieren meets Fragrant Flower, but with a speculative framework that turns Earth as we know it into a type of Isekai.

                            Here is the basic synopsis:
The Genji family opens the series navigating a crisis in their community concerning their six-year-old son Jomei's newest friend, Soshi, that can only be resolved when the clandestine magical intervention staged by Jomei's parents, Chimon and Kumiko, rescues multiple people from an escalating cycle of domestic abuse. The presence of magic in this quiet, coastal Japanese town remains bubbling beneath the surface, a well-kept secret to all except the two of them — even unbeknownst to Jomei — until the story advances to Jomei's final year of middle school. What occurs then could either be described as an act of disobedience, or as destiny – depending on who you ask!

When the popular fourteen-year-old Jomei intervenes to defend transfer student Hibiki Kurosawa — a nonspeaking, neurodivergent boy whose intellect and depth of feeling most people never take the time to discover — from bullying, the two forge an unlikely friendship that changes both their lives. Together they stumble into a hidden occult archive within the Genji family library, and Jomei discovers that his family's quiet life was never the whole truth. His parents aren't ordinary people. They're warlocks in hiding.

What will happen when two teens suddenly become aware of magic existing within their world? And more importantly, who will be watching them as a result?
