I do have my doubts about their employer making these major changes the day before a long weekend though...
Just to clarify, the changes were on Thursday, not Friday.
So if things had gone wellish it had some time available.
Reading was functioning before Saturday. Not being on the inside of JNC it's hard to know what all went into the scheduling decision, but it wasn't as "They did what?!" as your comment makes it sound.
-
@PinkShinyRose Yeah, its Columbus Day, Indigenous Peoples' Day in the US.
I feel bad for their team mostly because I think this could all have been caught during the testing phase before the upgrade, and then they wouldn't have had to work the overtime. I handle complex upgrades on systems for a living, and the number and varied types of issues they are seeing makes me feel things were not fully tested before they did the upgrade.
In any event I wish them the best and appreciate their hard work.
-
@Geezer-Weasalopes I'd agree with that, plus it's very possible they have past year reading metrics and knew this weekend would be light for users, and a good time for them to do their upgrade if things went sideways and they needed more time.
-
We all know they were holding this off until after Bookworm completed.
While it is a federal holiday in the U.S., that is all it is. Unless a business is government adjacent, the odds of it being a holiday at that company are exceedingly low.
On a more serious note, my reading history seems to be completely restored. Last time I checked it was all back except for a week-ish right before the update. Now it all seems to be there. Good work JNC IT team.

Heh.
Just now a little humor does not come amiss. While it is a federal holiday in the U.S., that is all it is. Unless a business is government adjacent, the odds of it being a holiday at that company are exceedingly low.
From what we've observed in the past (comments by staff in the support topics) JNC staff do get the standard holidays off.

They did say all along that the reading history was a gradual process given the number of records being transferred over; tens of thousands of entries.
Automation is wonderful; once started they could just let it run once they confirmed it was working.
So that didn't negatively impact staff ability to handle the unexpected weirdnesses that went down.
I'll agree on it being good work by the JNC IT team; it worked as planned. -
@Geezer-Weasalopes Can you let me know what volume exactly you were trying to purchase when it failed?
-
@chocolatkey
Cooking with Wild Game (Manga) first five volumes; they all gave that message, but upon a page refresh showed the purchase as having gone through. Then I shifted to the User Library for the rest of that series.
Ascendance of a Bookworm (Manga) second part was the initial test to confirm it was where the purchase was being made and not just that it was manga; since I already owned later volumes I could test it via the User Library option.I did still need to do a page refresh in the User Library upon making the purchases for them to display as owned, but there was noting weird messagewise concerning the transaction.
-
@Geezer-Weasalopes OK, that's useful to know. I think I know what the issue was, and it's fixed now. As you correctly assumed, it didn't actually affect the purchase itself.

I'm in the US. Almost every employer I've had over the last 30 years gave us most of the federal holidays off. So the above statement is questionable, or at least not universal in the least.
FWIW, I work in the IT industry and most (but not all) of my employers have been software development houses or service providers.

The only company I worked at in my adult working life (also more or less 30 years) that had Columbus day as a holiday was the 6ish years I was at AT&T.
-
To give context, another staff member already informed the Discord that today, Oct 14, is an observed US holiday for JNC staff.

Hi, sorry but please try again (on the website) and let us know if it works. Thank you!
No. The website does not work on my end. Tested in three separate browsers (Opera desktop, Vivaldi desktop, Safari mobile). I've logged out and back in, reloaded the browser, and I get the same thing: I try to click on any of the novel parts (beyond part 1) and I get the message "You don't currently have access to this part. Buy the full volume or get a subscription to read it now!" Checking my user account I am a regular subscribed user through the 26th. It only gives me the option to upgrade my existing sub.

Hello JNC Staff,
Once full-service has been restored, will there be any adjustments to timetables in terms of book release dates, or extending the time that regular and premium members have access to pre-published book parts, especially those that expire tomorrow? If not, would it be possible for regular and premium members to receive some number of free week long book rentals so we can catch up on what we missed that way? Thank you for your consideration.

Hi,
My apologies but my comment that you are replying to was to ask if they could now purchase coins on the site.
As for your issue, please email us at support@j-novel.club you can directly be assisted there.

A couple things I noticed right now:
-
Before there were links when you clicked on an author's/illustrator's name for a given series that would pull up a search query with their name in it that would show all their works (LNs & Manga adaptations) that isn't working but that's just a convenience thing for us lazy folks so bottom priority.
-
It looks like my most recent history for the past month or so is coming back since I can now see all the progress for the most recent volumes that were expiring soon is there now. Still can't log progress through browsers (Firefox on PC & Safari on mobile) but can mark progress through the JNC app on my iPad. All previous history like the first part for all previous volumes' history is still showing nothing on PC but somehow still shows correctly for all parts on previous volumes through the JNC app. I know this is an ongoing issue and since I updated the app and can view all previous history I feel this will eventually get fully sorted.
-
Was making a list of all the upcoming volumes that were going to expire in mid-November starting with the manga versions. Neither on PC or in the app does recent history track and past history even on the app is missing. All the manga volumes are showing off expiration dates (Frontier Lord manga volume 6 & Now I'm a Demon Lord manga volume 8 both show expiring on October 30 while The Invincible Little Lady manga volume 5 shows it's expiring on November 06). And for some reason on Firefox (can't differentiate on the app) all the previous manga volume parts are highlighted in green as if they're currently available to read along with the actual currently streaming parts.

I try to read something but it says I'm not subscribed. I already re-checked my profile and my subscription plan is still active.

Please log out and back in. It will work now

Yesterday I read a couple LN parts via browser on my PC. Those parts did not have their read status when I went into that app this morning. I swiped through them in the app and now they show read.
-
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but I'm unable to read anything on the app, in part it looks like a failed to load user data.
