In Safe and Sound in the Arms of an Elite Knight volume 3 part 3(13 total) it says "cottoned" instead of "caught on".

“Cottoned” is perfectly valid, although it’s British English (which sometimes is turfed out in favor of American English). And there should probably be an “on” after it, too.

It shows up in some regional dialects in American English, too. In the American South (or parts of it), for example.
