We have some important Subscription Service updates for current and future paying Members and Premium Members. We've organized this recap for those of you who missed our initial Youtube announcement stream going over these upcoming changes. These changes are now live as of October 3, 2025.

      Introducing the "Reader's Membership"!

      • This Subscription Tier is NOW LIVE!
      • Base Price of $3.50 per month (or $40 per year)
      • Read a large catalog of completed light novel series called the Readers Library
      • Read the first 3 or more volumes of a large number of our currently ongoing light novel series via the Readers Library
      • New series will be added to the Library every month (PSST... there's a handy list now for the Readers Library OR you can use our new filter on our Search page)
      • Separate from existing Membership or can be combined for more savings!

      "Membership" is Now "Club Membership"!

      • Same great price of $4.95 a month (or $54 a year) as before
      • Read the latest volumes of light novels and manga as they are translated as before
      • Your Membership will be automatically changed to Club Membership
      • TLDR: This is basically just a name change for clearer branding. Nothing is really changing about this Subscription Plan otherwise. Monthly Catchups are being removed as a whole from all Subscription Tiers.

What if you want BOTH Types of Memberships?

      • Sign up for the "Reader's Club Membership" which is NOW LIVE!
      • $7.95 per month (or $80 per year)
      • Combines the benefits of both "Reader's Membership" and "Club Membership"
      • Gain access to the latest volumes of light novels and manga as they are being translated (pre-pub volumes) + the Readers Library! ➡️ Best of Both Worlds
      • Save $0.50 a month when choosing this Subscription Plan
      • Easy to upgrade from either "Club Membership" or "Readers Membership"

      "Premium Membership" Changes!

      • Being renamed to "Premium Club Membership"
      • $11.95 per month (or $132 per year)
      • Same as existing "Premium Membership" except you now get 799 free Coins a month instead of 699
      • Premium Membership will NOT be automatically upgraded

"Premium Readers Club Membership" for You Power Users!

      • $14.95 per month (or $170 per year)
      • Get 799 free Coins a month + Everything from "Readers Club Membership"

      What About Monthly Catchups?

      • Monthly Catchups are no more. 😞
      • The new Subscription Plans that contain the Readers Library is the new way that you can check out series that you might want to buy.

My Brain Hurts! Do you have a Handy Chart for Reference?!

      AYCARLIBRARY_UPDATE.png

There is a new filter on our website that will list Series in the Readers Library! Hooray!

Please note that some series are only partially available for reading in the library at the moment. However, most of these will be the full series eventually!

      Premium eBook Price Change!

      • 😭 Premium epubs will be increasing in price from 699 to 799 coins…
      • Still compatible with any ePub reading device
      • Still contains bonus content such as bonus stories, art, or exclusive interviews (when available)!
      • Still available for purchase only on our website!

      FAQ.png

Will latest volumes be available on the "Readers Membership"?
No. We will add new series to the service on a monthly basis, but this service is about reading catalog series and books that have been published as eBooks for a while.

Can we still rent parts of series?
Yes! There are no changes to rentals.

Will manga series be added to the "Readers Membership"?
We have no plans to add manga at this time.

Will there still be Catchup series for the "Club Membership"?
No. The new Subscription Plans that contain the All-You-Can-Read Catalog is the new way that you can check out series that you might want to buy.

With the lower coin discount and higher ePub prices, is this a hidden price increase?
It doesn’t seem that hidden to us. 😭 But yes, the change of the premium ePub price to 799 coins unifies the pricing across eBook platforms since our general price increase in 2022. The Premium ePubs will still have the same benefits of bonus content (when available) and downloadabilty of your ePubs.

@hirei thank you for all the hard work
I still have questions about this whole thing but I will wait until the dust settles

“There’s always a story. It’s all stories, really. The sun coming up every day is a story. Everything’s got a story in it. Change the story, change the world.” ― Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky

This post is a good summary of the changes.

It should have been posted several days ago.

JNC still has a ways to go to repair the damage they did from their lack of communication to date. For starters, how about an acknowledgment that this was handled poorly and a plan for how to handle it better in the future, shared with us so we can make suggestions? An actual announcement on the front page?

The way this was handled was a total clusterfsck and really hurt my opinion of JNC's team. There is no excuse for the lack of communication and the lack of prior announcement on the website. A Youtube stream that I would bet 90%+ of JNC customers never even heard about is no substitute.

...Cats are the proof of a higher purpose to the universe.

@Travis-Butler Thanks for you comment. I (Sam) have been focusing on making sure the implementation of the changes was finished on time, and setup the youtube stream to explain the changes as soon as I was able to before the launch date. The lack of additional communication was an issue we are dealing with internally, and we'll strive to have a full-stack communications plan for any further major changes in the future.

another vote for - "thanks for clarifying" and yes I would've liked to have seen this somewhere more obvious on the home page (with a link at the TOP)

side note: I see about 50 out of 74 'completed' titles in the readers' library and about another 20 partial series - for $40/year (the cost of 6 e books if purchased) doesn't seem like a bad deal - assuming that a reasonable quantity of volumes keep getting added over time (and/or maintain a reasonable size of the readers' library)

                I read banned books

I'm another one who didn't have the availability to watch the youtube or catch the changes early. Not subscribed to the weekly newsletter so completely stumbling into what these changes mean for me. Especially being about halfway in a yearly subscription.

There should have been more communication earlier about the change. In fact, you may be in violation of the law for modifying the yearly subscription terms without prior notification and option to cancel. It's murky for me as the cost isn't changing but the items included in the subscription have changed effectively without notice and an option to opt out and cancel the subscription. It also is something that isn't clearly universal to the nation or all states.

I would have liked to see what terms I was under and what changes to those terms were being made for the 6 more months that I have already paid for.

@Lily-Garden this is similar to what I went through when Crunchyroll and Funimation were absorbed by Sony. The viewers were left with one huge consolidated 'Crunchyroll' anime provider that eliminated all subscriber ability to make comments or inputs. At least JNC hasn't gone dark on it's members like that and is still the most secure and committed provider of translated LNs to me. I'll hang around, but I'm sure going to miss the 5% coin discount on the lower 2 membership tiers.

Given that the catch ups were one of my main methods of finding novels to read, these changes are horrible. With the removal of catch-ups and reduction of benefits, my subscription has effectively been degraded significantly after the fact, with no heads up...

I only found out about this after finding no catch-ups for this month, and looking into why this is the case. The only update I found was this post, with no mail. This should have been communicated much earlier though more channels.
