App not showing catch-up
-
On the app you can no longer view catch-up. Since the membership changes these no longer show up when sorting the library by catch-up. If you search a title direct you can still read them. But there is no way to sort to catch up on the app now. I.e. you have to look at the website to see what the catch up are then type the title in search. It'll let you view the title chapters. But the actual listing son the app does not highlight nor state they are catch up. It used to state it was on catch up and colour them the catch-up colour.
I do have the correct subscription (had to triple check because the way it changed is confusing terminology)

There's no more catchups. Read this post for their official introduction to the new system.
-
@GeorgeMTO They're not actually complaining about catch ups, it's that the app has no way to show what's available in the new reader tier yet.
I think it was mentioned on discord that they do have the app update submitted, but they're still waiting on app store approvals.
-
@jpwong I'm aware there's a pending update. That doesn't change the fact that they're complaining about catch up when that doesn't exist any more. They can use the correct words to describe things if they'd like better responses.
-
@GeorgeMTO Maybe, but the app has the function to filter on what's labelled as "catchups" and everyone keeps discussing how reader is now the official replacement for catchups, so one might assume that since they didn't time the release of the new tiers with the app update like most companies would, that the catchup filter would act as the reader filter until such a time as they choose to release the updated app.
-
Yes. I'm using the term in the actual application. I am aware they are now "reader's library" Which replicates them to an extent. I updated my subscription on the change over, since I wanted to access the new version.
The original question was answered by the note that on discord they announced the app update was in proccess to various extents. I wonder if thats the best method for casual news as the various changes were rather abrupt for me.
edit: It also answered the colouration question. Since the app update is pending and the catchup meny is not hot cross connected to reader's library in the interim. then the colouration for it wouldn't indicate either. (as it does on the website)and correct JPWONG, that I was making the assumption that catch-up filter would work as the filter for what is available on that tier in the interim. As opposed to having no method I see currently on sorting for what is accessible on the app-my primary readin source. though I can get titles from browsing in a browser.
-
@GeorgeMTO Do you have a source for the pending update information? I've been looking everywhere on the forums and their blog post to even see if or when they are planning to update the app and haven't seen any information.
-
@Nubz_Unite I was trying to find that as well, but I get the feeling it must have been brought up in the Q&A part of the livestream.. which is unfortunately no longer available.
-
@jpwong it's on their YouTube, but I don't have the time to go through the video for a timestamp at present.
-
@GeorgeMTO Oh, I guess livestream replays for whatever reason yt doesn't list under the "Videos" tab which made it look like their most recent upload was "J-Novel Club Print Announcements (January 2025)"
I'll take a look through if I have time later in the morning.
@Nubz_Unite it should be in here towards the end somewhere if none of us are able to get around to looking into it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYgdy2sEzR8
Edit: I tried to go through the video really quick, but I actually didn't hear anything about the app at all, lots of questions about audiobooks, manga and discord roles.

@jpwong Thanks! I'll take a look after work, it's really annoying cause I mostly read on the app so it's basically unusable atm
