Description
The story is set several centuries into the slow decline of mankind. Earth has now become the realm of “fairies” – 10-centimeter-tall (about 4-inch-tall) creatures with remarkable intelligence. The human protagonist of the story serves an important duty as the international arbitrator between the fairies and humans, and she returns to her former hometown of Kusunoki. She chose this job because she thought it was an easy job she can do, even when she is as old as her grandfather. However, she learns that her job is anything but simple when she meets the fairies.Associated Names

This gets my vote.

The anime was a hidden gem so yes, I agree with this. The writing is so clever in this.
-
I remember all the questionable fairies in this show....
-
Just tossing my vote in for this title.
There's a bit of the first chapter of volume one already translated some time ago that's available on the internet. The style of writing is quite good and detailed.
Would really love to see it get picked up.

I was surprised by how much I liked that anime. I agree that it is a hidden gem and I still think of it fondly.

I like the anime as well.
-
This one's a cult classic for sure and it totally deserves to get picked up and licensed.

Humanity has Declined definitely deserves a translation! I'm even learning Japanese just to be able to read this novel in case it never gets one. But making it more accessible to other readers who aren't good at learning a second language or don't have time for it, might be beneficial for them!

Gonna toss my hat in the ring, too. The anime felt like it was just a glimpse into the world.
-
I really really want to read this.
-
Agreed! Please, I really hope this get picked up soon. It was a unique and clever show and it would be a shame if it was left without a translation ;(
-
Sounds cool, I'll need to watch the anime sometime. But I think Shogakukan would be a problem.

I loved the anime for this--the protagonist is one of my all time favorite characters--but it's merely an introduction
