In general, web novels are stories that are uploaded directly to a website by the author as they are being written. They'll often update on a regular schedule such as once a week. Light novels undergo an editing process, usually with a professional editor, to package a few chapters at a time of the web novel into a book that can be published. A professional illustrator is usually hired by the publisher and sometimes the author writes additional short stories or changes the story structure or characters.r

Thus, even though if you subscribe to J-Novel Club you can read a book on the web in weekly updates, it is the light novel version that is being translated, so you'd be reading a light novel, not a web novel.

@strangeattractor There is also the fact that the LN may have extra stories or side stories that are not in the WN. Examples would be the "Salty Dog" Extra story that was in vol. 9 of "Campfire Cooking with My Absurd Skill" and the side atory involving the alchemist Father Adela that appears at the end of vol. 8 of "The Unwanted Undead Adventurer". Neither of those are part of their respective WNs.

Also, the LN might differ to a greater or lesser extent from the WN in terms of storyline. I remember reading in the Afterword of one of the LNs that JNC is translating where the author stated that they had made some changes to the LN storyline as compared to the WN storyline. I have also come across at least two WNs on Shosetsuka ni Narou whose LN versions were different (in one case significantly so).

              Ok, thanks.
I read on another topic that JNC doesn't translate WN but only LN (at least for now), so I wasn't sure what it meant.
